Barney needs you to read this as he needs a new home - His words tell it all.  If you know of anyone who may be interested call Margaret on 019380811717 fosscott@aol.com, or Kathy on 01788 860590 or kathy.gorman@fossedata.co.uk

His present owner says "Please don’t let the negatives of Barney Rubble put you off, you really do need to meet him to see what a lovely character he his and just how funny and bouncy he is."

Quote:
"My name is Barney Rubble and I am around six years old, this hasn’t always been my name and its just an estimate of my age as my mom rescued me from a dogs home nearly six years ago. She gave me my new name. I think it suits me as I have such a mischievous character.
When I went to live with my mom there was another person there who only worked in the mornings so I was only left on my own for a few hours but circumstances have changed and my mom has to work full time. I don’t like being left on my own even though she comes back to play with me at lunch time and she always gives me my treat ball which is my favourite toy and I watch out of the window because I am such a nosey boy. I do allsorts of very naughty things……. I chew at the doors and take chunks out of them, I also scratch at them, open cupboards and pull out what is inside. I have never chewed any shoes, even if I find them! I also wee in the house. When I really don’t want to be left alone I try to stop my mommy leaving the house by trying to get out the door with her.

I also get left in the garden during the day with my treat ball, and they throw treats around the garden and in the long grass so I can play at sniffing them out I'm really good at this game! They have had to make sure it is secure though because I can escape through any gap, broken fence or bush. I don’t mind being left outside too much because I watch and try to catch the birds.

When my mommy is at home or she takes me to peoples houses I am totally different, so much more relaxed, because I am not on my own; I curl up and go to sleep on my blanket mostly or next to my mommy on the sofa…… she says she wouldn’t even know I was there and wishes she could be with me all the time. We play games in the garden I like to play football and will bring a ball back to you but only if you swop it for a treat with me ha ha! I am also great with children.

I love cuddles and fuss and my little stubby tail sometimes feels like it’s about to fall off I Wagg it that much. I know some good tricks as well; I can sit, stay, lie down, kiss and best of all roll over and bring things to you when you ask!!. My mommy had a bad stomach and couldn’t bend over so within a day I learnt to pick up and bring her my food bowl when she says "bring me your bowl" I also won’t eat until I am told to with a command. I love learning new things.

I like walks and am very strong but I don’t get on with other dogs my mommy thinks it’s because I was never socialised with them so I don’t know what to do and just fight them. Once very very slowly first out on walks and then at home I was introduced to another dog and I was able to tolerate that, we didn’t learn to play together but we were able to be in the same room as each other. So when I have free running in the field I have to have a muzzle on I don’t like it but it is needed.

I know I am a very naughty boy and I do know when I have done something I shouldn’t have but I can’t help it as I have very bad separation anxiety, I just love being with and knowing I am close to a human. Maybe it has something to do with when I was a puppy? same as I don’t like shouting and I cant be locked in a cage or only one room, I panic and end up being sick. My mom found out that there are some herbal tablets that could help me so I have been on them for a good few weeks and they seem to be doing good things for me and would like to stay on them, they take the edge off my anxiety.

My mommy really doesn’t want to give me up because we love each other so much and have been together through ups and downs but doesn’t have much choice, she has told me she won’t let me go to just anybody, it has to be a very special somebody!

Would a 'holiday' help Barney stay with his mommy in the long term?

Don't know - why don't you contact Kathy or Margaret and suggest it?  I think Kathy was contacted originally so perhaps her first.

Barney is having a bit of trouble with his neighbours.  He has taken to digging his way through the garden fence and has then been picked up by the local dog warden - twice in almost as many days.

Barney is a great character and lovely house dog.   He is very friendly and does not like to be left on his own very much as he loves company.  He does have some meet and greet issues with other dogs but even in three weeks these were changing.

The reason for this post is his owner does not feel she is now doing the right thing by keeping him and believes someone else will be better able to give him the life he deserves.

He has been neutered, was originally a rescue some 6 years ago so no pedigree papers; he is however a very fine Brittany.

Can anyone help? or know someone who can help?

I take it you have informed Margaret Green our rehoming Co-ordinator?

Somehow it does not surprise me...I have had 3 years of listening to some sad tales and if an owner finds coping with the dog difficult, it is a matter of time before it comes into rescue. I think Guy did his utmost to assess the dog properly and tried to prevent Barney coming into a rescue situation. At least we know, thanks to his 3 weeks away, what his character is like and his failings. I hope an understanding person will come along soon for him...

You will recall my arrangement with Barney was deemed by you and Margaret to be 'private' and so outside the remit of 'rescue'  - I have posted here as a private individual.
