Well, all being well we will be in the position to offer a training day on the Saturday before the Club Open Show - this is subject to availability of ground but some feedback would be useful.

We are wondering if people who may be interested in taking the Show Gundog Working Certificate would be interested in a session that would give them info and tips about what would be involved, what preparation is needed before undertaking etc? This session would be aimed at dogs who would be looking seriously at being ready to compete for this in the 2009/2010 season. We would not be able to replicate true training as the SGWC is run during the shooting season as the dog needs to demonstrate its ability to do its job for real but there is enough interest we will see what we can do to give some useful training.

In addition as we are conscious there are a lot of young dogs who are not yet looking at that standard of work we propose to continue doing obedience work as structured on the previous training days using the Steve Kimberley Training Manual as a guide. If people have specific issues they wish to work on that would be helpful to know in advance although we can't promise to focus on everybodies issues!

Finally, I do Dog Games with two of my dogs and I would be happy to set up a lane to do some recall over low hurdles with or without retrieves if people are interested. In effect it offers a chance to do off lead recall, starting to negociate obstacles and possibly carry articles over same obstacles in a fun way. A bit of fun to wind down, warm up or just to let off steam in a controlled manner.

So, thoughts and feedback - positive and negative would be most welcome and as soon as possible we will confirm that we can most importantly access the grounds and publish more firm details on the Club Website.

Thanks

All depending on Donald being available and my car cage fitting his new car!

And I believe a certain romantic FT Sec suggested a St Valentine's theme? Wink

Yes please to the obedience and general training.  It would be good if we could do some working test training.  How far in advance do you need to know what specific training needs we have?

At the moment we are just judging interest while waiting for confirmation of the ground etc. Next FT is Jan 8th so we will be more in a position to plot and plan after that really.

John said Fiona W was fairly certain.  He said it was Ok to put it on the Forum.  Don't know of any others at the mo.

Once we know how many are interested we can go ahead, and John intends then to ask what stage each dog/handler combination is at and tailor the training accordingly.  The ultimate aim is to get dogs at the SHGWC stage and above, as well as having fun and additional training using Sue's dog games.
