FORUM NETIQUETTE

Libellous posts will not be tolerated and will see the member's account deactivated whilst the situation is reviewed. Defaming someone in a post on a public forum makes the forum liable for your libel!

When posting, please be courteous, objective and respectful of the views of others, no matter how much they may vary from yours. Hostile or offensive language will be removed without warning. Personal attacks will not be tolerated and could lead to a de-activation of membership. Generally speaking, if you talk to others as you'd expect to be spoken to then there should be no problems. Please be careful of over familiarity leading to comments that can be mis construed by members not party to the friendship.

An argument takes two – often the best strategy is to turn a blind eye to something about which you feel you cannot disagree without becoming emotionally involved. Or to simply walk away from reading or contributing to offensive discussions, and report them instead to a moderator.

The moderators reserve the right to temporarily 'lock' a thread to allow a 'cooling off' period.

The remainder of this netiquette applies principally to ALL posts EXCEPT those in the GENERAL OTHER forums where formality will be less stringent.

Location: Please do your best to pre-select the right forum for your topic using the following criteria:
The forum titles should be self-explanatory, so find one that suits your subject
If you cannot find a relevant forum, and your post is DOG-RELATED, then please post it in the General Dog
If you cannot find a relevant forum, and your post is NON-DOG-RELATED, then please post it in the General Chat

Relevance: Please attempt to keep your posts relevant to the original topic or thread title. Non-topic-related comments to other posters should be addressed via Private Message or email, rather than in posts. If you want to exchange 'off-topic' banter, the General Chat will be the ideal place to do it. Humour and repartee around the topic is however good.

Tangential Discussion: If the thread sparks a suggestion that could take it off in a different direction, please consider starting a 'New Topic' and discussing it there. This will make it MUCH easier to later find the information directly or by search of subject or using the search facility..Can we avoid things like having a thread that starts on coat colour but ends up discussing water retrieves.

Quoting: Please use the 'Quote' facility, editing out the irrelevant part of the post, or posts, you wish to quote from.

Crossposting: Please be aware cross posting from other forums breaches the copyright of the original poster.  So please do not do it without their explicit permission; save where the right to cross post is implied - lost dogs, health alerts etc.

Please help others:
If you see an unanswered post, with which you cannot assist, please take a moment to consider whether you know anyone who MAY know the answer. Often, a quick email, asking a friend to take a look at a post, can produce the answer the poster needs. The forum has a feature to help with this. At the bottom right-hand corner of any topic page is a link entitled 'Email this Topic to a Friend', which produces an auto-mail text box, with text you can modify to suit your needs.

Courtesy & Support: This forum allows Brittany lovers to support each other. Please keep this in mind when posting and keep your posts courteous and supportive. You may not always agree with the content or style of everybody's posts, but even if you disagree – keep it civil.

Club Business;  Items for the club to discuss in committee can be freely proposed and discussed, as that way the club will get a good understanding of the members wishes.  However committee members contributing will only be doing so as individuals; please respect the fact they will not be able to give views on behalf of the committee or the club.

Privacy and confidentiality: Please respect the privacy of others and keep personal details and personal communication private. Only share the names and contact information of people publicly if agreed with them beforehand. You must not publish Private Messages or emails received by or from other members, Moderators or Administrators in any form without permission.

Pictures: Please be aware all members do not have broadband, please resize your pictures to the 640 x 480 - the suggested option in most cases.     When posting multiple images (more than four) please limit these to about three per post.  With ten posts displayed per page this still equates to thirty pictures - which take a while to download!

Er ... that's it.
