Well Annie had her first bird hunt, at the EB club gathering they released a number of Partridge and conducted the hunt along the lines of a field trial I believe.
Annie had one run in the morning and ran around hunting, working quite well but didn't really know what to look for. There was a Partidge direct in front of me about 15m away and Annie was quartering across and would have been a about 3m away from it but didn't pick it up. Mmmm a bit disappointing but oh well.
She had a second run in the afternoon and performed much better. The handlers and dogs were working in pairs and Annie and the other dog were close together and flushed a Partridge, it rose and I dropped it with the first barrel, the other dog pounced on it and retrieved it, Annie just kind of looked on and thought "mmm how did that happen".
Walked a little further and another was flushed, went to my right a little and I dropped that one also, the other dog was a little closer and retrieved that one as well.
Barely walked a couple of metres and Annie was on point direct in front of me, the Partridge flushed and I dropped it, there was no way any other dog was beating her to this one, she was on it in a flash and retrieved straight back to me. She took a bit of convincing to give it up, but she did see my point of view in the end.
To sy i was impressed would be an understatement, might not be text book style but she was effective and learnt real fast.
