Saw this today - shows Brittanys with all sorts of lengths of tails, they look very leggy and slim ... it said that is was France, though looking through the dogs i thought they very much resembled the AB rather than that of the EB and the horses on the plain in the end ... well only people that know France can put me right.
Sorry if this is already on here ... but trawling through things ... well put it this way ... i've done enough of it to last me a life time
The scene in the second half of the video is in the US. Goldie had already posted it on the French Forum. No one else hunts Brittanys on horseback in Europe.
The first half: It says Rennes. So it is in France.
The Brittany has gone through various and slight alterations in its standard. I went to the US with J Bordet and we went through the various standards since 1908. As the breed had some Setter influence, the standard was revised subtely to get away from it. ie, snipy muzzles, slab flanks etc...
The tail: well it started as " the Naturally short tail Breton Club". Only bob tails were allowed in the beginning and I translated elsewhere when the docking was allowed. Most then had varying lenghts, but no longer than 10 cms. Which is fairly long...It was found that people were " cheating " and crushed the end of the tail as to mimic " the grain of rice". Therefore they came to allowing docks.
Even now and after some research from the Swiss, we have found many natural tailless studs in France, who not only are correct but" recommended"
It is finding them all...
