I'm a devilishly handsome chap who lives in Bangor Co Down and has Pointers. I can see the hands flying in the air, " Not another imposter?" Things like he doesn't even own a H.P.R. let alone a Brittany. Well that may all very well be true but in Chris I have a de facto HPR. A Danish lady gave me Chris and he has been trained to do the whole thing as he has to be able to do to compete in continental trials. This last season I have been hunting Chris in Co Tyrone, a wild rough spot for a Pointer. I know he was used for hunting partmigan in Scandanavia but I'll warrant that nothing there prepared him for life in Northern Ireland. At the start of the season he was at best ambivilent about brambles (Co Tyrone brambles are something akin to Camel Thorns. The stuff the Massai use to protect their cattle from lions.) but now it isn't a question of how to get him into the brambles, it's more like how to keep him out.
I make a point of joining forums for pointing dogs as some people have gone to great lengths to set up similar facilities for other breeds but they just don't seem to be used so I like to give a bit of support.
I really enjoy the season but I also really enjoy counting and of course I compete in Pointer & Setter Trials.
The main reason I join these forums..............There's always the danger I might learn something.

Welcome Des, you will no doubt see a few names you recognise and also a few you know by another - The Plum here is Windem Bang elsewhere for instance.

I hope you will be moved to post regularly, particularly your take on training and field experience with other breeds.

This is the aforementioned Chris. This was taken last summer, before his involvement with the Co tyrone brambles. There is no doubt that some of this seasons scars will follow him to his grave. This could be described as a characteristic pose as this is Chris last week, 29th Jan. '09 pointing snipe on Black Mountain.

You can see the others some time again.

This is Chris' son Oksby Basso. I bought Basso in Denmark and then Liz Sku gave me Chris. In my original Italian bitch, Echednei Hendi there was a lot of Danish blood and more to the point Oksby Fly so when I went looking to the continent again I plumped of Kennel Oksby so that my new blood wouldn't be a complete out cross. Handsome chap don't you think?
