I am very interested in this as my bitch may have same problem not had it before and she is 5yrs old. My vet said it could be hormones as she has just had puppies but I doubt that theory. Would it be possible to tell me your dogs pedigree name. As I noticed Dave A had this problem to and it could be in the lines?
My girl Annie has a similar condition (see earlier thread I think) but not quite as severe. She has had a biopsy and has been on meds, it seemed to help a bit but it's still there. I've been playing around with her diet as at the time of the initial outbreak she was having a large amount of venison offcuts, I have since been feeding her mainly high quality dry food but the problem stil persists, kind of hoping once we get to the warmer dryer months (Aus.) she may improve a bit more?????
The initial outbreak was quite severe as it flared up and she had a temp. and could barely walk, meds initially knocked it back real quick but it never went away.
Cheers,
Waldo
Is her new food wheat free, Waldo? I have seen increasing numbers of dogs with wheat and gluten intolerance. _________________ Annie

Just checked the ingredients and the current food is wheat free, the skin condition has flared up a bit the last couple of days and is worse again today. She has had some venison the last two nights but it was already starting to flare up prior to the venison, so not real sure what to think.
This is the link to the earlier thread I started when the condition first appeared:

Waldo, could this be an allergy...I know paspalum grass can cause an allergic reaction...just a thought... _________________ "...amitie, respect mutuel et amour..."
Hi Victoria,
I don't really know as I can't place the initial case and current flare up with any particular incidence, I also can't (or don't want to) really isolate her in the back yard either to see if there is an impact.
Getting to the stage where I don't really know what to do, with the hip condition she often turns into a tripod when cantering around the yard and quite stiff when she comes out of her kennel plus the skin condition.
Even getting to the stage where I'm starting to research into a new pup for the future (maybe next year or 2). Apparently not many breeding the French strain Breton over here now, considering trying a Vizsla as an alternative. Decisions, decisions, decisions?
Cheers,
Waldo
