We went to one of these when we were over in 2001. Monsieur Louvet was the speaker and Margaret took part too. Very informative. It's the one the French judges have to take I believe. If anyone is going to France next year I recommend it if you are interested in Judging, or even just for information. If you are ever invited to be a trainee Judge in the ring take that opportunity too. I learnt an awful lot doing that. _________________ Annie

I think you will find the seminar is more for the " Foreigners" as the judges over there have to do a number of assessments over 3 years in the ring under Specialists, pass oral and written exams from the Vet school and be approved by the Club. It is very hard.
As for the trainee judges at the Nationale, you have to apply in writing normally. All judges are " allocated" a student, usually from trainee judges who need more experience or from other countries.
When Sherry wanted to do an assessment, I had to apply for her in writing, same for me. Mind you, I chose my judge, as I have more respect for some more than others

I was invited, Patricia. I didn't know any judges at the time - I was in with Monsier Riva I think. I have a photo somewhere.
Also, this is from the form above -

As far as the French judges are concerned, to participate at this session will be one of the conditions to be
accepted to judge the “Special Breed shows” for Epagneul Breton, from 2011 on.

"We consider this initiative as not only desirable, but indispensable, considering some judgements observed more
particularly in foreign countries."
That's the bit I like!!!
So this is a new initiative from 2011. I know Sables will be discussed, and I would be interested about discussion on size too.
I remember J Bordet being really cross when they did not apply for such or such judge to go in a particular ring. It had always been courtesy to ask in writing normally

Well perhaps someone else applied in writing for me - but if they did I knew nothing of it. I was just told by Pierre and Margaret that I would be in the ring with a French Judge and to have smart clothes with me! It was a long time ago so perhaps things have changed. _________________ Annie

No Barbara, there is not. I went with Sherry in the ring to translate for her...and with permission from the judge.
Many French judges speak a little English.
