Not any more - it was made illegal some years ago. These two lads bought the lion cub with the intention of raising it then releasing it to the wild. The man who helped repatriate Christian had seen him over a number of years with his Pride increasing in that time. At the time of the video he had been out for about a year and had accumulated two females and his pride gradually expanded from that. He has not been seen for some years now but some of the members of his family have from time to time, so they know he is still around. I think it is a wonderful story and the video made me cry too. I couldn't believe that a wild animal could show such affection to humans. I don't even get that from my cats and they are couthy ones.

That's why I used the past tense. These blokes (or one of them) were on the radio the other day talking about their experience. They bought the Lion without really knowing what they were getting into. Shows how easy it was at one time to buy big cats. I really would not be surprised if there are large cats which have been released into our countryside and are still managing to survive.

There have been reports of a lion type animal in our area. A former colleague (an ex special services man) claims to have seen the big cat on Bodmin Moor. Most of these creatures natural environment is much harsher than we have here in the UK and they are very resourceful. So, who knows what may be out there

And we have our "Fen Tiger" . a large black cat was reported within 1/2 mile of here. Probably rubbish but who knows?

There is a 'black panther type' animal living in woods about 10 miles from where I used to live in Aberdeenshire. Thankfully, at the other side of the A96 and with two towns and a great many farms and fields between it and us, but a woman was attacked by it around 2005. There are always strange animals around so why anyone would want to 're-wild' an area like that idiot in the Highlands, I do not know.
