Ampton AA TrialWell I had another good day yesterday. My first time as Chief Steward and I enjoyed it although next time I need to get my speech rehearsed slightly better as reading John A's handwriting was a challenge .
I had toyed with the idea of seeing if Mugi could do his SGWC but the ground was ridiculous for a dog of his age and so he stayed tucked in his blankies in the car snug as a bug.
Four Brittanys running as Guy mentioned. Also 2 GWP, 2 Weims, 1 GSP and 1 SRHP so despite a number of withdrawals we had enough late entries to ensure we could run the trial.
Of the Brittanys I have to say that I was extremely impressed with Ruby - she was the only dog to achieve a full HPR on both of her runs and on her first run her flush produced two pheasants and A DEER so plenty of temptation to move. It was such a shame she moved slightly on her second run when the bird flushed and so that was that. The positive though was that she steadied herself with no handler input.
Catja was lovely to watch, she has really gained in confidence and was covering her ground with speed. On her first run especially though Guy ensured she worked where he wanted her although you could see she was getting more and more keen to stretch her boundaries as the day wore on.
We had two awards
2nd Aytee Hot Gossip (GSP) L. Hustler who also received the Guns Award
4th Ch Freddy Vom Kapellenhof at Bareve (Deu Imp) (GWP) S. Pinkerton
I do have a couple of pics of Catja and Ruby I can post here if Guy and Mick are ok with that. In the meantime I will just pop a couple of general ones so you can see the ground and vegetation.
Spot the dog????

Young Catja, not good photos due to vegetation and light but you get an idea of how well she was running.

ampton F/TrRuby & I had a fantastic day ruby worked her cotton socks off for me and produced a super point on 2 pheasant & 1 monkjack, nice steady flush then sat on command and retreived to hand on blind retreive through fairly long stubble. Her first ever warm bird I kept my wooly hat on this time though Pat?
On second run though she just edged forwards 2 yards after flush before stopping on command. Handler error due to lack of concentration on my part. Im sure Guy & John have had better days but thats the way it goes sometimes you win some you loose some.

I know Guy - I think the light starting to fade and the cold setting in focussed our minds on tea and biccies as opposed to photo ops.
Hopefully another time with even more competitors??
