Annie's day after deer

I was fortunate to have the week off after easter (which coincides with school hols over here) so my eldest son, Annie and I went chasing deer for the day (Thursday). It was a pretty solid 8 hours of stalking in reasonably tough terrain with a number of deer sitings and a small doe taken right at the end.
Within 100m from leaving the ute Annie was showing real interest in a clump of blackberries/wattle etc. my son went to go around to the left and I approached from the right and a deer darted out from within 5m of Annie, my son commented "that dog is bloody amazing", it's only her second field trip after deer and she was on one in an instant. fair chance it would have just bedded down and stayed put if Annie wasn't there. Latter on we were walking down an old track/game trail when Annie darted off to side and showed similar interset an a blackberry clump (about 15m away), this time we were a bit more prepared and sure enough a deer bolted as my son approached, unfortunately the scrubby terrain didn't present a decent chance of a shot. So far she had found 2 deer and we had failed to capitalise, I was thinking (and she probably was too) we were letting her down something chronic.
We eventually came good with a small doe right at days end, so hopefully we have restored Annie's faith in us.
It was a great day out with my son and our faithfull hunting dog, someday's life is pretty sweet.
Cheers,
