Anti bark collarsI have posted about excited barking problems before and tried various things but no success so far.
Has anyone experience of using anti-bark collars please? I see that there are different sorts - ultrasonic and spray.
Our Breton Tommy is nearly a year old, has a lovely personality, is not at all agressive, does not stray when we are out and is well behaved (if playful ...) in the house but he gets in a frenzy of excited barking when we are in the car and are approaching the beach, the forest - anywhere where he thinks he will be going for a run. It's very high pitched barking. He also does this when we return home and are approaching our house.
He is fine on long trips and settles down quickly when we are driving along the main road, but when we slow down and he can see the forest ....
He goes for a long run most days, plus walks on the lead around town and playing in the garden.

You will need someone else in the car with you and a water pistol. The second he starts the passenger turns round and fires the water at him. And immediately faces the front again. Must be done every time he starts to bark/whinr/squeal! May take a while but it usually works. Yelling at him will make him worse.

I will certainly try that. We have realised that shouting is no good, it's just like us barking back at him. He has been very responsive to other training so I'm sure we will manage to control it

We have this problem too when it comes to walking Cedar, she starts squealing and yapping (bet the neighbors think she's being murdered!!) My husband has started squirting her and she stops squealing as loud... she kind of does it under her breath lol

How old is Cedar? We are hoping that Tommy might grow out of it ......
Our other dog, a ten year old Springer gets excited too when we get near somewhere interesting but she just gets restless and makes soft whimpering sounds - Tommy picks up on this and it starts him off
I'll get a water pistol tomorrow ....

I have a spray anti-bark collar for my WSS which works well for him. Mugi is a barker and he will happily bark with the collar on and totally ignores the spray .

Cedar is 10 months old, To be honest all it does is stop her there and then, she does it the next time though so she gets squirted again lol ..
We hope she will eventually stop alltogether
She loves her walks so much though I can't really blame her

I bought a water pistol and we drove to the forest. As soon as he started barking (when we turned off the main road) I gave a quick squirt and he stopped at once. Just once more about 5 minutes later so I squirted him again and then silence. He had a good run and a wander around with our other dog, got nice and muddy then popped back in the car and we had a quiet drive home. Bliss!!
They was just day one of course .... more news soon ...

Great! Cesar Millan eat your heart out So long as the water shoots out instantly and you turn back again immediately he should never realise where it is coming from so should stop altogether. Keep us posted.

We've just been out again in the car with Tommy and the water pistol but did not need to use it - not a peep out of him all the way to the forest and all the way back! He was up looking out of the window but no jumping around in the back of the car like he used to before. He did his normal "mad running " when we got there he's so full of life and he leaps and bounds like a young deer.

Glad it's working Bernice, well done. I'll bet going walkies is a far better experience for you now.

QTommy has been a new dog since we tried the water pistol. In fact I only had to use it a few times and he got the message. Now we take it "just in case". He is calm in the car but still looking around to see where we are going and he has stopped barking with excitement when we are preparing his food
