Anyone near enough to find out more??

Apparently there is a 1 yr old male Brittany called Benson at Leigh Cat and Dogs home (got this from a springer site and don't have more details re web or phone number) and not being supposed to talk I can't really try to ring them even if I got the number.

He is living in a kennel currently with two other dogs and is intermittently lame.

Just wondered if anybody is near enough to Leigh to confirm he is a Brittany etc etc.

We are going up there this afternoon don't know what time we shall get there though Exclamation Just going shopping so will check when I get back.
Just had a look at their site....they are not a dogs home they are the council pound. and do-not have a very good reputation either Exclamation  Do a google search and have a look at some of the comments being passed regarding this place Exclamation  Exclamation

PS I have rung Margaret and I will call and have a look at this dog this afternoon and check him out. If he is a Brittany I will let Margaret know and she can take it from there. Perhaps Joanne could spring him from 'clink'. I believe they charge £50 to release them but I'm not sure about that just going by what's been said on various sites Exclamation

Thanks Jan.

If he IS a Brittany, and they have a bad reputation I have no problem with £50 to get him out of there.
Lin Dyke

I'll go halves with you Annie.
Jan, anything to report yet?
Annie as admin

Don't think Jan will be online till late tonight or tomorrow - they are away to take Mike's Mum somewhere I believe.

I'm not too far from Leigh, if anything needs doing.

John, check with Jan and see if she has managed to go to see this dog

I'm happy to foster the poor thing while you try and find a home. We have a safe and large home and I think it would do Amber good to have some company. I have been thinking of fostering for some time now, i'd rather it was a brittany. Not sure if i've breached all sorts of protocall, but the offer is there and anyone can visit to check out our home.
Annie as admin

Thank you for that offer, Tara - I've sent Margaret an email to let her know.  All we need to do now is get the dog if he is a Brittany.

Been there yesterday and the dog has been rehomed [before we got there] I spoke to Margaret and she thinks it may be the one that John posted about some time ago. These people at Leigh haven't updated their website.
johnhod

The one I posted about was in Bikenhead (Wirral Council's kennels).  From memory that was a bitch.  I'm almost certain that Wirral don't use Leigh.  THat tends to be used by Wigan, Warrington, Manchester and some of the smaller Greater Manchester councils.
Ghilliegumdrop

OK thanks John....got mixed up with those two. This was definately a dog his name was Benson.
Lin Dyke

Hope he has gone to a suitable home.
Ghilliegumdrop

They wouldn't give me any details Rolling Eyes  Rolling Eyes
Tara and Amber

At least he is out of that place. Hope he is OK.

I do not understand places like that - what do they think we'd do - try to take the dog back and use it for breeding Rolling Eyes  - Some of these places need a bomb under them. Twisted Evil   Don't they realise it's the breed we have at heart.
OK folks, just fell off the soapbox Laughing It just makes me so mad when we are willing to help Evil or Very Mad
Ghilliegumdrop

Well if the dog has been rehomed I guess that someone who fancied him/her could get the details and go and say it was their dog and they wanted it back. So, in some cases, it's best not to give out details Exclamation Do we give out details of where it's gone when we rehome a dog Question
johnhod

Did you go to the kennels Jan?  I've never been too impressed with it when I've visited.
Ghilliegumdrop

Not though to have a look John....I got inside the door and was told to pay 50p, the girl behind the desk asked what I was looking for and when I said Benson the Brittany she said he had been rehomed and wouldn't give any details.....so I left [without giving her the 50p] From outside looking over the fence the place looked clean but then again there were members of the public in there looking at dogs so I suppose it must be kept clean. Bit like jail though.
Annie as admin

You shouldn't have said his name and just said a spaniel and paid teh 50p - bet you he's still there.
Ghilliegumdrop

Why would they lie about it Question
Lin Dyke

Why would they know who he was and what had happened to him without referring to their records  Question  Sounds a bit sus to me  Sad
Ghilliegumdrop

Well if someone else would like to go over and do a recheck please feel free....I don't have a problem with that.

I presume the girl who told me he had been rehomed was the one who had done the paper work and I don't suppose they have that many Brittany's in so he would stick in their mind Twisted Evil

From my experience with the people who run our local centres, pretty well everybody working there knows every dog by name.   I don't see why it should be different anywhere else.
