Bad news for Chase re CruftsErrr - he has spent the last two days plastered in mud AFTER his show bath, not quite sure what to do now .
Today though has been great. Brice my deerhound has been attacked on more than one occasion and essentially for the last two years he has been unable to mix with dogs outside a select few. Having a large breed with aggression issues is not easy, esp when he is a huge softie with his family. I have been rehabilitating him for a while and today we were in Surrey having an assessment with a group of Teaching Dogs - dogs who have been trained to manage dog behaviour in groups. So for the assessment I needed to take Brice, Fred and Chase (Mugi was not there due to the aggression issues he has toward Brice, and Piper is still ill post neuter op).
For three hours my lads worked in the group environment, Chase had a ball as he has no issues meeting groups of dogs so he was playing non-stop. Fred too was having fun but most importantly Brice went from a muzzled dog to one playing with a whole group of dogs without a muzzle. Yes there is still a way to go but I can see he may get back to 'normal'. Brice will now do some group sessions on his own and I hope it will teach him to trust and be more adept when meeting new dogs.
I do think in the grand scheme of things that a very muddy Chase is a small price to pay. Will try a very good brushing once he is fully dry but I fear it may be another bath for the brat tomorrow .

I think you have hit the nail on the head, Sue...how often when you think about it do we actually PLAY with our dogs...as a pack, wolves will play, African wild dogs play, serious 5 litre a day does will play...I think it is an important part of living with each other...and also helps the younger dog learn the boundaries...what's the old saying...all work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy...its good for us too...when you all end up on the lawn in a great heap...great fun...
Oooops, each to their own, I know, but I think it is fun...and the dogs love it!!

As long as it's not a smelly one (heap)
I was wondering how I was to bath Remi three days before showing on Saturday, and keep him clean and smelling sweet. With my level of experience, it isn't possible
On balance, I'd rather give Tegen and Remi a good run on Friday and do my best to make sure his coat is more obedient than him.

Jim is also planning to give Rudi a good run on Friday with a dip in a clean running stream before returning home for some "fine tuning"
