BenFollowing a couple of attempts to rehome Ben, without luck, we've decided to let him stay in our pack. I've spoken to Margaret and she's happy for us to do this.
At least now I can get down to doing some training with him, something I didn't want to do too much of as I didn't know what potential owners would want to use him for.
Hopefully next time you see him he'll be a bit calmer and under better control than he was at Le Weekend.

Who is Ben? Wonderful to have people who are willing to take a rescue as they are not easy....

Well, the song was about a pet rat

I had a feeling that he was going to stay, somehow. It was something to do with the looks on Edna and Hayley's faces that made me think that.

Ben is a now a seven month old Brittany who was in his third home when I got a call from Margaret, asking if I could pick him up as the couple who had him couldn't cope (they only live 10 minutes from us).
The couple who had him were in their mid 70s, the man has arthritis and the woman just couldn't walk a bouncy Brittany. Hayley and I went to pick him up and the people seemed genuinely sorry to see him go, but realised it was best for both them and the dog. They still phone each week to find out how he's getting on.
He's a hard running, headstrong dog, who's going to take some work but I think he has working potential. At the club weekend he did a short retrieve on a cold partridge and entered the water with no encouragement but he's doing it for himself at the moment. He's really independent so I've got to work at making him want to work with and for me.

Well he's a very nice dog and he looked as if he had loads of potential John so I wish you luck Did you get his papers etc....if so what is his breeding

Lucky Ben, he is a nice dog John and so keen - I am sure he will soon learn what is expected of him.

My mum doesn't want to admit it, but she loves him really and she would have been sad to see him go!

He's a very lucky boy

One each then. If I wore a hat I'd take it off to you all. I hope you'll all be very happy together . Can't imagine you won't. I look forward to seeing him around with the rest of the tribe, sorry, pack

Yes. He's from Cliathan lines. I'll get onto David and Sophie to find out more about his ancestry.
His name is Fyerlynns Boy Bouncer. Dam Cliathan Nikita, Sire Cliathan Oliver's Return

Is he on the data base.....sometimes the Irish bred dogs don't show up on there
|

Previous Flyerlynns litter on there, born 16/5/07, but not him.
|

|
Just been on the database and his litter is there but I'm getting an error message with it, as shown below
error '80020009'
/brittany_club_breed_database_view_record.asp, line 131

That really is the weirdest thing. When I looked for the Flyerlynns on my own computer this morning there was one litter there but not any more. There is not one Flyerlynn on my database here, and now I can't even find one on the website.
|
johnhod
|
It's Fyerlynn not Flyerlynn, maybe that's why
|
doganjo
|
Well that is even stranger. When I looked this morning there were at least 4 of a litter born may 07, now (with the correct spelling, thanks, John) there are three born 10/3/06. Don't know where the others have gone And I can't get any of them on the website version, at all! I know it's Halloween but this is spooky

Having eventually spelt his name correctly I have now found Ben on the website database - but as you say, John, an error message is also coming up so I have emailed Donald.
|

Donald's spotted the problem - an apostrophe in Ben's sire's name.

Hi John,
His dam, Cliathan Nikita is a lovely tri-colour, who is litter sister to Sophie's Bojo (Cliathan Ned) who she was showing this summer. Does he have a tail? I know that there are tail-less and bob-tails in that line. I am sure Sophie will be happy to provide any information you need.

Sophie has kindly provided the info on Bes background, so I've put together a rough pedigree to share

It is a good pedigree and I know some of the dogs involved as I imported Spot De Keranlouan, bred Patouche Monseigneur( belongs now to Bill Dillon in the US, himself a son of my Gallo de St Thurial and Ivry de Keranlouan, -dam to Lorca too- ).
I met Starky and told David to hang on to Lou ( Louise)!
What saddens me though is people get shot of such young dogs with...the rubbish...And he is not. Shame on them, they don't deserve a dog never mind one like that.

As soon as I saw the pedigree I thought "Patricia will be smiling when she sees this"
You will do both of them (Ben and Patricia) proud

Believe me Lynn, I am not laughing when I see such dogs ending up as rehome cases or in rescue.
It makes my blood boil, only wish owners or breeders who get rid of their dogs for £250 or less or sell them to just anybody would be in a little black book.
Starky is by the famous Indy de St Lubin, David has imported some good French dogs- from the really well known Domionique Pozo who is very sucessful...-and that is what happens to their descendants.
For pity's sake, go and leave the Brittany alone!

Patricia, I only meant you would be smiling to recognise the names and the potential that comes with them. We are all saddened to know of a dog that has been rejected.
Thankfully, this boy has landed on his feet (Very lucky to have been taken on by John, Edna and Hayley.)

I'm just glad that the last owners (the couple in their 70s) had the sense to contact Margaret, rather than just passing him on again to another unsuitable home.

I'm just glad that he found you three Is see he has his full name already - another Magic Dog! Lots of famous French kennel names in there.

Still waiting for the paperwork back from the KC but there shouldn't be any problems I hope

Who on earth would sell a dog to someone in their 70's? Considering a Brittany can live well over 14 years of age> No insult intended here.
I know many people can still be very active still but...will they still be a good 10 years later????
I look forward to seeing Ben.

To be fair the breeder sold the pup to a young couple (I don't know if they were asked any questions or if he was just after a quick sale though). Within a couple of months they had split up and Ben was (I think left with the woman, who didn't have time to care for him) She passed him on to the elderly couple, who she knew and who had always had dogs until a couple of years ago.
they soon realised that a six month old Brittany was too much and IMHO did the right thing in contacting the Brittany Club for help.

I agree John...At least they did not farm it to the dreaded RSPCA
Sorry for getting on my " soap box".I am touchy about it having been involved in rescue for 3 years.
Should the people die or get divorced, the breeder should have first port of call to help rehome as the KC code will now suggest...

Margaret tried the breeder before contacting me, but like so many he didn't want to know
