Bonjour from Barty in FranceHello all
This is not my first posting, some may remember I posted about Eliot earlier in the year, an elderly Brittany we rescued from our local refuge. Sadly we lost him to a heart condition in August.
Now I am pleased to report that we have just re-homed another rescued Brittany - Barty. He is just over 3 years old and is tiny in comparison with Eliot (only weighing just over 12 kilos when rescued from a bad situation with a hunter who no longer wanted him). But what a bundle of energy! He came from Bressuire, north Deux-Sèvres, 450 km or so away from where we live. 2 volunteers from the rescue association brought him part of the way and we met up with one of them in Brive. We were rather apprehensive about how he would get on with Deinah, our rescued setter cross, and the cat. But fortunately they are all getting on fine.
So here we are, still in the training period. He was, of course, not used to being in a house - so plenty of peeing around to start with. That seems to have eased off now and he is getting into a routine. Now he can do quite a long walk off the lead (away from roads on trails), hunting, while following and coming back. He can certainly hunt - pointing a nice big pheasant yesterday! And again today, he flushed another pheasant out which crash landed right in front of me.
Two weeks today since his arrival, but he has his paws firmly under the table!
Thanks to Guy for some helpful advice.
