Bonjour from Merlin

Hi there, it has been months since I joined, life has been busy.
Merlin and I have settled in nicely here in France, we are coming up for three months now. We are in the South West in the foothills of the Pyrenees in Ariege.
Life for Merlin is great, the locals are keen hunters and just love dogs, he comes most places with us, he likes joining us for Steak at our favourite restaurant.
Merlin is still as challenging as ever, our days are never dull. He is now coming up to 14 months old and is very immature still.
The great thing about being here is that the breed is very common, our neighours have two and they have been very encouraging, they talk of the spirit of l'Epagneul Breton and smile in a very knowing way.
Merlin has that trait of the naughty days and has lots of them, that glint in the eyes, that flick of the head just prior to turning at full throttle 4x4 style into the horizon!
Anyho, just wanted to pop in and say hi, I find the postings very useful and entertaining.

Ta, our Merlin is so sweet when he is asleep. He can drive us nuts all day, then go to sleep and look like an angel!
Just got back from a great walk, I dare not say it to myself, but he is being brill at coming back, he moves like race horse, it is such a joy to watch. The place we walk has a whole series of streams set into ditches and he leaps over them with such ease. I am not sure grace is a word I would use as there are some pretty rough landings sometimes. The lake must be freezing as he has charged in two days on a run and got out pronto, he usually goes in and stays in. We have snow on the mountains now, but it still is unseasonable mild, wonder if it will catch us out and change overnight? The picture is from the summer. Merlin with his mate Max, my in-laws rescued cocker. Max is old and chubby and very easy to wind up, so Merlin as you can see is putting on a show to do just that. They say a young dog can give an old dog a new lease of life. In Max's case I think it just gives him indigestion Surprised)

Winter has arrived in Ariege

Hi Guys,

Well, winter has arrived here in Ariege. It is beautiful, even bad weather here is beautiful.

I confess to be not looking forward to travelling back to the UK tomorrow. We have the length of France to drive and the Fog to contend with. I am going to miss my walks here, it is so free for Merlin compared to where we used to live, but hey it is only for a week and I am sure Merlin will enjoy being spoilt by Nanny and Grandad.

This will be our first time using his passport to return to the UK, will be glad to have done it once, then it is no longer an unknown quantity. Merlin is at the vet this afternoon for the required tick and worm treatment and the necessary stamping and signing of papers, I do feel it is a licence to print money, but hey, at least he can travel with us.

Merry Christmas to you all, happy walking, fruitful hunting, and a big cheers to all the calories that come with the fete Surprised)
