Boston Champ (No CC's)Many congratulations to Andrea on her BOB with Monty (Daraydala Beaumont) and Barbara on her BP with Megan (Kenocto Radiant Rumba With Rochus) and being short-listed in the Puppy Group.
Both dogs did the breed proud in the big ring. Monty was very settled and as Andrea had been telling me all about his tribulations with surgery last year it was great to see him sound and so relaxed. Little Meggie was a star and moved like a dream especially considering she is only 7 months and this was only her second show.
I don't like Newark as a showground for Open shows so I was agreeably surprised to see the set up was really very good for an indoor Champ show. As the day wore on the temperatures did drop and it became very cold but they had really thought out parking, ground coverage etc if the weather had been wet.
............... one final thing. Eddie - Chase says if you do post the pic of his indignity he will never ever EVER speak to you again .

Now, can you tell me what you have been doing to poor old Chase?
Don't tell me he was wearing pyjamas???
My son's Cirneco has to wear a coat in the sub zero temp, but...he has no hair

Judging by the look on Barbara's face when Megan was shortlisted, I don't think she would have coped with a placing without the aid of St John's.
Sorry I should have added my congratulations to Monty and Megan earlier. It was nice to be free to make a bit of a fuss of one or two of the dogs there .
I agree with you about the venue Sue. I was pleasantly surprised by the way they set the place up for the show.

Ok - puffball dog gives permission for photo as long as he is never ever reminded of the humiliation in public.
Moo is also humiliated but only cos his 'pressie' came from the bargain bin and he is smugly remembering there were no camera phones to record his shame!!

I'm afraid two of the pic's appear to have become corrupted and I am left with this rather poor image

This is a joke right? Chase does not really wear anything like that??? I don't know about Puff ball, more like a seal who has lost his waterproof coating and needs a diving suit!!! Chase, tell your Mum, you have hair!!!!( ref Canadians Brittanys who work at -20 or more!!!!

All the best people wear coats.
I think he looks rather sweet

I think he looks somewhat cheesed off .

To be honest it is a dry flat coat.
We had a bouffant hair moment as I had to bathe him rather close to the show, texture was ok but volume was definitely reminiscent of a big hair/bad hair day . Esp the hair round his throat (which I lightly trim but don't want to clean off too much) goes wild and makes him look 'thick'.
So as there was a stall selling the coats (remembering how well Rosie looked at the Champ Show after Gill did her grooming demo) I have invested in one - actually also is the right size for my welsh without tucking in the rear portion as I need to for Chase. One of the ones Chase tried for size from the bargain bin was too slight but I was sure it would fit the smaller Moo well and I was right - so although Mugi's coat texture will never be fab as he is a bit soft I will be able to control the curl he gets in places.
I was very proud of Chase, he was not happy in the venue (there had def been a GSP in season in the ring before us which unsettled a lot of the dogs - blood on the floor and the tannoy was making announcements through our attempt to be good) he moved ok but he was not happy to stand still. I really didn't expect him to tolerate the coat being tried for size but he did - a number of coats were tried on, in a corridor with dogs passing all the time and as his lead was under the coat I was only steadying him with a hand on his chest.
It is ok Patricia, the only coat he has is a Swampcooler which is to cool him in hot weather and now this one as a grooming aid. He has a fabulous coat that nature has provided and it has served him well through this cold spell. Mugi wears a coat or his pyjamas as a deference to a) his age and b) his finer coat but I don't coat my young dogs unless they are ill and perhaps have been in a hydrotherapy pool in winter.

My congratulations to Andrea & Monty too Thanks also to everyone including Amanda who stayed to support us especially as it was really very cold by then. When Meggie was the first to be called out in the puppy shortlist I wanted to jump with joy but did manage to contain myself When we walked through to the BIS ring she had a bad experience when a R & W Setter went for her from it's bench and she squealed very loudly. Unfortunately the second dog to be shortlisted in the Puppy Group was a R & W Setter and Meggie wouldn't stand with her back to it so she was quite unsettled in the final line up.

Sue...I forgive you We know Chase is not a Pansy!!!

Thanks everyone for the kind words, and well done Barbara with your little girl.I think all the brittany gang had a good day even though it was so cold.

Hello Andrea
I would have thought you would be able to observe. If you were to contact Hilary Gould at the Kennel Club on 0207 518 1059, I'm sure she would be able to tell you.

Congratulations to Barbara and Andrea whose Dogs looked great in the group. I will not forget the picture on Barbara's face when she got pulled out in the puppy group. Megan did the breed proud as she moved so soundly and correctly without a foot wrong. As only a few minutes before the group she had been spooked by a dog flying off its bench at her.
It was a great day had by all even though it was so cold. I did have to smile when Jess brought in her dog with a fabulous dog coat with a wonderful colour on it. I am sure Sue was trying to find the right colour for Chase. I just wish I had my camera with me.

The information pack for the pointing breeds training weekends included a list of field trial secretaries which might be of use to you. The same list was on the Kennel Club website but I can't find it now. If I can find my list I'll scan it and send it to you. Apart from that, maybe there is a field trial not too far from you which you could go to. I think I'll have to wait until next year to do that as I've no more holiday until April.
I couldn't find you on face book Andrea. Just some Scottish woman who has yet to accept me as a friend

She has accepted you - she just happened to be watching Grand Designs on Channel 14 freeview and it was about a Georgian house being renovated in London - fantastic stuff. I hate being in a modern bungalow, much rather have my old house back - maybe one day I'll renovate another one

Just been catching up with all the news from Boston. Many congratulations to Andrea and Monty and to Barbara and Megan. It seems ages since we saw anyone.
Was it too cold for you this morning Eddie or are we just too early? The sun was just coming up as we were on our way and the sky was absolutely fantastic. We could have done with a good photographer.

I set the alarm on my phone, completely forgetting that the time on it had defaulted becase I had removed the battery yesterday. We went there this afternoon (if you have a good sniff you might be able to smell the dogs. I can !) Tegen, we think, was responsible for a woodcock passing within about 20' of us. Shame there wasn't more light and shame I didn't have a camera .

I'm not sure I could have found one at such short notice .
Big plus this afternoon was that Tegen almost completely ignored the sound of gunfire again .

I just spoke to somebody at the Kennel Club who suggested that you leave some contact details with them so that, when they have sorted out who will doing the training on the day, they can let you know whether he/she finds it acceptable for people other than those on the course to be present.
