Building desireI have really had an issue with Chase and retrieving and I know it has been my fault. He loves picking up things and carrying them and I have never got the balance right about getting him to bring them back to me.
I have tried a number of techniques but without much success although he retrieves partridge beautifully and brings it back to me. I really want him to work on dummys though for training to be more generalised.
I have just bought something though and have started building desire for it in the house. It is a Prey Dummy and all it is is a canvas zipped 'bag' with a throwing toggle. I have popped a puppy dummy inside and Chase loves it - we are playing find it in the house and I have never seen him so keen to seek out a toy , we have had a 10 minute session of him seeking it out and then returning to me where I am sat on the rug.
Next stage will be adding a couple of dog biscuits in with the puppy dummy so when he returns the dummy to me I will reward him from the dummy with a piece of biscuit.
One problem I forsee is that he may decide to run off with the dummy and 'kill it' to get the treat hence at the moment I am only doing this in the house but I am hoping it will be that step I need that will bridge the final hurdle.
Wish me luck and I will post an update when I see how it goes.

These look good and at £4.40 are reasonably priced - Canine Concepts website - was yours less than that and did you get it online as their postage is too steep at £3.85.
