Thanks to all the committee for a wonderful weekend and the judging was excellent it was great to have a French judge who looked like he was enjoying being in the centre of the ring and look forward to his critiques. I think Kathy's arm must have been droppping off at the end of the day with the amount of writing she did for him.
Congratulations to all the winners it was just a shame that there were no puppies for him to judge.
Look forward to next year and hopefully the gnomes will produce some excellent babies for you all

Well I want to say a very well done to Amanda for getting BIS at the Brit weekend that of course make him a Show Champion. I know the judge wanted to Buy him there and then.
Mabeleen is very happy to have a champ father.

He's a very nice dog Gill well deserved Ch just a pity his owner doesn't like the showing side as much as he does the working.

He's a b&**Ły gundog he's supposed to be worked, not pranced about in a show ring

I didn't say he wasn't just that he is a very nice dog and he could be shown and worked. Don't you argue with me Mr Hodkinson or I will MAKE sure there are LOTS and LOTS of gnomes for you to take home at the next show

I am with Jan on this one - shame he and more working dogs don't show - so they are the norm not the exception.

Hi,
I agree with Jan and Guy. I know a lot of working folk don't like the show ring, but really they should be please with the people who want to show there dogs off. The real reason for showing in the first place was for breeders to show to other breeders there latest stock, the judge is there to judge that each dog conforms to the KC standard so ensuring that who ever wants to work there Brit was indeed working a Brit and not mishmash.
If the working folk didn't have the show people how would they know weather they were working a Brittany, it could be a cross breed that looks like a Brittany. Maybe thay don't care as long as it works well, well they should as they are as responable for the continuation of the breed in type and health as the show people. How would people get to know about the breed they go to Crufts or Discover Dogs to be introduced to the breed not a field somewhere in the country. So please give the show people a break and let them get on with what they enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!

So it's up to working people to go to shows rather than for show people to go into the field and find out whats dogs are supposed to do. Maybe if the lab and springer show people had an idea of what the dogs were supposed to do we wouldn't have the monstrosities that pararde themselves in the ring claiming to be these once proud breeds.
Already we are seeing gun-shy, non-retrieving, non- swimming Brittanies. Are we on the slippery slope?

That's not what I said John.
If you have a good working dog that is also capable of winning in the show ring and people don't see it there as well as in the field how then can he be used at stud to improve the show dog's working ablities [if they need improving] and I am not just talking Brittanys here. How many people work Brittanys and need a stud dog but don't show so they just use a dog that may or may not be a typical Brittany [or other breed] that may or may not have been health tested etc
Perhaps this should be another thread so we can discuss it

Hi all,
>>Maybe if the lab and springer show people had an idea of what the dogs were supposed to do we wouldn't have the monstrosities that pararde themselves in the ring claiming to be these once proud breeds.<<
Well that is a matter of oppinion.
When I go beating which I have done for the last 25 years I see so called working eng springers and boy are some ugly, with queen ann legs and missing pads on there feet. Some are crazy and run them selfs into the ground.
I beleive that the breed should be true dual purpose and both working and show people should work together to keep the Brittany type, healthy and trainable.
I have been in Welsh for a long time and the breed people strive to keep the breed together. I think that working people just want a dog that pops out of the wombe all ready trained. If a Brit can't swim then train it, if a Brit can't retrieve then train it, if it is gun shy then may I suggest the training wasn't right.
Remember a Brit can do many things Show, work, agility, obedence, fly ball, pat dogs and a great companion. People seem to bang on about working all the time giving other people a complex.
Guy shows his dogs and works his dogs he has lovely dogs that are happy
because they are with him what ever he dose. His dogs are very typical because he has the knowage to know what a good Brittany looks like, why because he see's good Brittanys at shows and in the French show ring.
In saying all that I also beleive that show people should go to a field trial to see what a well trainned Brittany can do, I think they would be suprised.

There was no need to type out all the results - they and all other shows where Fosse Data are involved are on their website - http://www.fossedata.co.uk/results/show.asp
This in turn is accessed via the Club website - http://www.brittanyclub.co.uk/brittany_club_show_information.asp

They weren't on fossedata when I typed them up Annie as I had checked there first.

Perhaps so, they do need time to input on a weekday after the show.

When and where will the critiques be up? Are they going to be up on Our Dogs?
|

They are usually in the two dog papers and our own shows are also in the newsletter so this should be in the Christmas one. Kathy has to write them up/translate first though and she was entertaining Monsieur and Madame Corre on Monday till they flew home on Tuesday morning, then off to France herself later on Tuesday - not sure how long she is away for though.

ch Show 11.10.09Many thanks to everyone who congratulated us on our win on Sunday, what a shock it was, we had considered leaving being in the last class, and we had to get home for Jordon, anyone who was there knows, it was a long day and many of us had not witnessed such thorough judging before(not even in France) but of course glad we did stay, also well done to Amanda for getting BOB and her 3rd cc making him a champion.
Thank you to all the committee and helpers for all their hard work which made the weekend another sucess. Just hope we do not loose this venue due to peoples laziness re. poo bags!
Ruby and l were out again on Monday 12th at shoot over day to see photos. wwwruralshots.com
