Little lad is just 11 weeks old and tonight he went to class for the first time.
I train at Learning About Dogs mostly (although I don't exclusively clicker train) and I decided their pup classes would be best for the little pup as I am wary of exposing such a bold puppy to all and sundry.
The Puppy School starts with the teenies having a half hour meet and greet assessment with other very young pups to decide whether thay are ready to join th emain class.
Chase was fine and was deemed ready to start straight away.
So tonight we were in a class of 10 unknown dogs ranging from 10 weeks to 10 months. We were also outside on a farmyard which is teeming with game etc.
Chase developed his loose lead walking really quickly, he picks up following body language well and 'this way' sees him getting into a fair position by my side. He can maintain a relaxed pace by my side for up to 15 paces which is fab as he has only used a lead since sat!!
He then did two repetitions of off-lead recall which I was pleased with as we have been practising this hard.
Then indoors when it went a tad pear-shaped . The first exercise was food manners where he was not allowed to mug for food - he did this fine. Second exercise was handling for vet exam (something he did for the vet fine), I have only had my plaster off since last thursday and I know this is something I have not done as much of as I would have liked. Well someone had a very large and very noisy strop . Oh well - we can't be too perfect .
Loads to work on with him and we are looking forward to his next class.
