Club NewsletterI just recieved my summer newsletter from the brittany club. My article is in it! Thank-you to all involved in printing it. You certainly get your moneys worth, it will take me a day or two to read!
I will treasure my copy and was very chuffed to see it there. After reading it again it reminded of the hunts and I can't wait until the season opens again. This time I will keep a roughshooters diary as reading the newsletter made the experience more vivid than my memory will ever allow!
Thanks again,
Keith, Rosie and Holly.

No, we have to thank you for sharing it with us - I just thought it was such a superb piece of writing that made everything come alive that I had to send it to Gay for the newsletter.

Keith, I cannot wait to get my copy to read your article...there is nothing more exciting than a good article re le chasse especially when there are Breton involved

You've done it again, Keith!! Have you ever thought of contributing to the Shooting Gazette or other such mags where there is NEVER any reference to the Breton?

Nah I wouldn't think I'd get a mention. But thanks for the support though. Since appearing in the newsletter my head has got too large for my hat!
I might send the photos of Finn and Rosie pointing in the snow for the craic. It would indeed be very nice to see more of our fantastic breed in the shooting mags and a privilege for me to see either of my 4 Muppets!

Well so far the Shooting Gazette has declined to use the story but itself and the Sporting Gun want to use the photo's when the opportunity arises.

Keith, you must submit your article or fotos to the Shooting Gazette; they now have a column from an American guy who shoots over Brittanies and who hosted the Editor to a shoot on bobwhites over there...a nice follow up, I reckon

Forgot to log in!!!! The terrible winds and freezin cold day has numbed my brain...Keith you must be disheartened, sometimes it can take ages to get stuff published!! Would you consider rewriting? Dont mean to go on but it is just so neat to read of people out there doing with their Breton what the breed was intended to do...GO FINN, GO ROSIE!!

Yes I got a reply from the shooting gazette infact really the gazette and the shooting times bothered to reply!
From the Editor of the Gazette,
"Thanks for sending your article in. I enjoyed reading it but unfortunately don't think I will be able to use it as we are very limited on space. I hunted in Texas with a guy who was running Brittanies and thought they were superb dogs. In fact he now writes a monthly column for us. I'm sure you would enjoy his articles - his name is Terry Boyer."
The publishing director from the gazette on the other hand said,
"Many thanks for allowing us to see the photographs of your dogs. They
certainly are a very handsome pair.I will pass the phographs on to the editorial team and I'm sure that
they will use them if the opportunity arises."
and the Sub-Editor of the Shooting times,
"Thankyou for your email and pictures. I, too, am familiar with the Britanny as my husband's father has one and she is a fantastic shooting dog - especially when she points! However, it is unlikely we will be able to use your pictures I'm afraid as we have official photographer's for the magazine. If you have an interesting story to go with one of your dogs - perhaps it may be an idea to send a letter with the picture attached for possible use in our Letters page? That way it is more likely to get your pictures printed."
It's interesting that the people working on the magazines are at least aware of our dogs.
The quote in the times reply worries me somewhat, "she is a fantastic shooting dog - especially when she points!"
Does this mean she likes to see a dog pointing in general or does her Father-in-laws' dog run in most of the time!!!!!!!

Perhaps you could let them all know that our dogs are French ones and as such may work differently from the American(texas) ones -eg speed, range etc. (and that pointing is not only necessary but natural )

The Field included a little gundog supplement April issue I think, and under Pointers and Setters there was no mention of the Breton.
Not all Brittanies in the US are AB's of course; I know of shooters over there going to the EB even after having AB's for sometime.

Yeah my Brittanys made page 20 of the 'Sporting Shooter'! They had a little article which I don't remember writing! And a link to the story on the website. Result!
