Competing in France

Ok, I am considering taking 'himself' abroad next year and need some help!!!

I am about to start his Pet Passport (he already has a chip so am part way there).

So, what next?? Where do I find out about shows, does he need an equiavalent of an Authority To Compete etc etc and any other info I need as I have no idea regarding competing on the mainland. Obviously there is plenty of time before he is over there as I need his Passport to valid so realistially we are not talking before late spring 2009.

Thanks
andrea

I have been thinking about taking Bruce(Vanilla Ice) abroad maybe have a camping holiday with my children at one of those lovely campsites, and show while we are there,so am in the same situation, need information and some help,he is chipped and up to date with all his jabs, how do you find the schedules?and enter, also do the campsites in France allow pets?or what about the shows in other countries?

I think Patricia is the bets bet for both of you - she does it all the time, or Guy.  Just a bit too far for me though, even down here.  Won't put my dogs through all that travel.

For completenes sake -

Chip first then rabies jab.  You can have these done one after another but the chip has to be done first.
The reccomended course of vaccines is an initial shot followed by a booster at two weeks.  Two weeks after that a blood test is taken and tested for antibodies.  If the titre is sufficient then the dog may return to the UK six months from the date the blood was taken.
Having said that 90% of dogs will have a sufficiently high titre after a fortnight.  I have personally done four dogs on this regime although I had to argue with the vet a couple of times, but he checked his pharmacopoeia and found out the week regime is OK.
You can take the dog to France as soon as teh jab has been given, it is the return to the UK that is the problem.

To return to England you have to go to a vet and have anti tick and anti worm treatment for the dog and this must be noted in the passport.  Dated and timed.  You then have to be at the ferry port not earlier than 24hours and not later than 48 hours from the treatment.  If you wish to go for a day trip you have to have the treatment done in England before you go so you can arrive at the French port within the allotted times. The French National - entry forms are published on the CEB site, but usually only on the French bit.  A link will be put on this forum when it appears.  It is fairly straight forward.   The National is a very good event, lots of people to talk with from all over Europe and usually tourist activities, the French TAN (on dizzied quail and dizzied partridge, not caged)  and the REP - deep water retrieve.

Other shows - some can be enterred on line through Fosse Data.
A definitive list of nationals is here http://www.scc.asso.fr/home.php?n...;sous_type=Exposition%20nationale
The Brittany ones are listed here http://www.epagneul-breton.ws/en/shows/spe/cal_specshows.php

Entry forms recognise KC registered dogs.

Campsites - there are many that allow dogs.  Also Campernile hotels accept them and the Mister Bed and the like also, some charge a few euro extra, but when booked on line there is no option for this :-)

We showed in germany - they were very hospitable and would welcome more people from other countires - last year there was Swedish (or Danish) French USA, UK exhibitors.

Showing in France is truly rewarding and I like to go and " bathe" in the whole French show atmosphere, the friendliness, the quality of the dogs, the aperitifs, the  complete relaxed thing...
I am going to show next month and December too. There are other shows as well as the Nationale. To win there and get placed is the ultimate.
Cool  But also the French CEB puts on Speciales and Super Speciales( we went to one last year with Chase's sister . There are the shows with CACs ( Nationales) and CACIBs ( Internationales). You can find the link that Anne had put on the BCGB under SCC- calendar- The French KC.
Pick up the dates you want, the judges( important) and download a form with a cheque or International money order.
Make sure your passport includes all the blood test, vaccines. Don't think the people who check them are a bundle of laugh, they are...not Rolling Eyes
One mistake from the vet will have you segregated on th side and DEFRA called.( this has happened to me with Chriss) the vet had forgotten to enter the blood test result. Embarassed
Tick and worm within 24-48 hours, not one minute later. or Calais it is!
Basically, microchip , rabies vaccine. Wait one month or over 3 weeks, then blood test. wait 6 months for potential rabies!!!
Then you are good to go.
The shows are great fun, my advice, take a chair, don't worry about poo bags( they don't have any) watch where ou walk...Don't expect to leave before 5.30 pm. But expect sincere friendliness, some excellent Bretons, and above all explicit critiques. Compare your stock with the French and see if we are on the right track...Don't enter working class even if you have a field award here. It won't count. As we are not FCI.
Don't take a dog less than 15 months if you want a CAC. It won't count either. The French consider such dogs babies and not worthy of a CAC...
Don't take a dog under or over standard, you will get measured and thrown out if not within standard. Not like in the UK Crying or Very sad
We show in France successfully and appreciate a real appraisal of a good Breton
