dogart

hope everyone is well, its going to take me ages to catch up with whats been going on!
i've been a stranger on the forum again for a while because i'm spending so much time on the
pc painting! i bought my first graphics tablet a month or 2 ago and
bundled with it was some amazing painting software and its very addictive!

i've almost finished honey now (click for bigger):

this is my parents ESS in cornwall in a slightly different style
(yes its fur really is that long and curly lol):

and this is a friend of my mum who then asked if i'd paint her black lab
with the strangest coloured eyes i think i've seen:

(hope you don't mind me posting images this way annie - i'm hosting them
myself so it shouldn't take up any server space as far as i can work out)
best wishes to you all  Very Happy

Hi   I like the pictures especially the one of Honey as it looks like my oldest lady "Fern ". I sometimes use a tablet for graphics at work and i have to say you have done a great job and yes it is addictive.

Mike glad to see you here again.

I have a wacom pad I use for CAD - not tried 'painting' with it - do you start with a photo and work that in a 'painterly'  or do you go from scratch.

PS - just had to buy a new pen for it as a certain no names mentioned animal crunched the last one into unusable pieces

No problem putting paintings on here, feel free. They're lovely Laughing

thanks annie, guy and dave Smile

re graphics tablet guy, mine's a wacom as well - i was told they were pretty good when i was looking for one and this is just the cheapest basic little wacum 'bamboo' i hope the replacement pens aren't too pricey! Smile the software bundled with it is called Art Rage. it allows you to open a reference photo next to your canvas, which is great for sampling colours to your palette or looking at a certain area in detail, it has a really friendly user interface and the brushes/tools etc are very realistic in the way they behave. best thing is there's no clearing up afterwards! below is a screenshot (unfinished) i have a jack russel to do next followed by a 'ginger collie' (its how the owner describes it anyway lol, i've not seen a photo yet).

best wishes

Wow, Mike...the paintings are fantastic!!!!   How clever!!
Annie as admin

So are these done on the computer rather than using messy paints?
honeys humans

thanks victoria Smile
yes annie, i'm using one of these to paint with: http://www.wacom-shop.net/cgi-bin...?gclid=CJOrhqSS55MCFQyvQwodEDy3zA - they really are fun Smile

Do you need anything other than teh tablet, or is everything included that you need to start 'painting'
honeys humans

this is the one i bought from pc world annie - everything you need is in the box for getting started, it should come with the Art Rage software included Wink http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/...&sku=209728&category_oid= i did search for cheaper prices at the time, but there was not a huge saving to be had and i couldn't wait for postie to bring it  Laughing
Naomi

wow Mike, they're lovely!!!

Well done

thanks naomi Smile i'm busy painting a little hitler now (jack russel) and just received a request for a basset hound which i'm looking forward to - they have interesting faces and are real characters.

So does the finished article end up on canvas? or in a frame? and about how much do they cost?

Sorry I am so nosey lol

Do you need an artistic flair or background?
honeys humans

so far naomi i've had the portraits printed at photobox.co.uk on a matt stock, canvas prints are quite expensive and don't necessarily look any better for the extra expense.

i've been painting them for fun so far but anyone interested in a portrait can PM me to discuss a price which would include a % to brittany rescue Smile

annie, i think you would get on very well with the graphics tablet and software: http://www.ambientdesign.com/artrage.html thats bundled with it.

the best price i found  for a wacom Intuos 3  was from these guys http://www.digitalphotosolutions.co.uk/  better than Ebay!

Link is dead Guy, will try later, maybe they're doing a revamp like us Wink
guy

try this one http://www.dpsb.co.uk/  same people but the 'business' site.
honeys humans

DPS Price inc. VAT: £34.99 + handling charge: £5.00 + VAT  makes it more expensive than PC World i believe  Wink maths was never my strong point though lol  Smile
guy

what an A5 Intuos 3 for that much ?? Rolling Eyes  gosh I was done - the replacement pen was almost twice that.
honeys humans

Confused i was talking about the wacom 'bamboo' baby graphics tablet guy, which comes bundled with the free Art Rage painting software  Smile
guy

You can't buy the ones marked educational unless you give them a teaching registration number.  I tried as they are a lot cheaper! Rolling Eyes
