Folk Art and Kennel NamesI applied for a kennel name and got my sixth choice (don't you love that) anyway it is Faisan. Why do I have a kennel name when there are no puppies, not even a sweetheart for my boy, well, mostly for sponsorship purposes; anyway here is the door mantle I have painted depicting my kennel name and of course, Breton. The mountain behind is our mountain the Kaweka's which is 5,234 feet above sea level at the trig. I have to thank Jan for the inspiration to finish it after her posting her beautiful pastel of the Breton.

Victora,
Love it.
I have been tempted to register a kennel name, but like you have only an unbetrothed boy.
Out of interest what were the other names?

Hi Guy, the other names I wanted were Chemin (as in the new path/lane!!); Nouveau (as in the chemin), Chasseur (predictable and probably cringely par se!! and well and truly already taken I suspect), St Urban (Gaston and his litter were born on the festival day of Saint Urban which was first choice) and Sombreuil (my favourite rose!). When you think of all the kennel names issued it is a wonder you even get one of the six in the first go!

is there such a thing as a list of existing kennel names?? I am a step closer to registering one.
Current favourite is 'Tresallier' followed by 'Plashwood'

Guy, I guess your kennel club could probably tell you if a name has been taken or not. I really like Tresallier! Could this possibly involve the cherub and the spunky Topaz????
|
guy
|
Tresallier - is a grape variety specific to the St Pourcain vignoble; and St Pourcain is where we first met EB.
Cherub and himself may have their day - both need to prove themselves in ring and field.
Cherub is not a name that instantly springs to mind.

The KC publish a list of prefix/affix names, and you may be able to see the book on their stand at Cruft's. Don't know what they charge for it but you can bet it's not free.
I say may as every time I have asked they never have one there.

As in Pavarotti, Annie? Guy, how can you torment us with such a vista!! Rosemary George in her book French Country Wines states that the name Tresallier is the local name for Sacy. She goes on to say that Sacy only ripens properly once year in ten!!!!!! What is you view of the wine?
|
guy
|
The vines you see out of the window are grown by a chap called Fugier. He has the name for making the best 'methode champenoise' Blanc de Blanc. Although locally you are not now allowed to call it that; it is 'vin de boule'. There is also a very nice late harvest chardonnay made by another that cannot be sold as St Pourcain but is superb. (apparently the only late harvest Chardonnay made in France Also some 'ice wines' that sometimes have the aroma of violets. The area has now achieved AOC status.
Sacy - now that would also make a good EB kennel name sounds like Sassy !

One hope's that LARGE samples of all these wines will be on offer at Cruft's??
Shame that Mike and I ate all the guncake!!
Well we had to because they wouldn't let it into the USA [where we had our finger prints taken and also our picture] I blame Victoria!!

Well, I have a bottle of NZ wine that I could bring if forced to.
|
guy

If we get Tresallier as a kennel name we will provide a chance to sample the brew.

Never mind about if......just bring the juice with you [and some plastic cups]
|
guy

Afraid i am fresh out of that particular one. But will bring a bottle of something to share with others there.

|
Will you bring a corkscrew for my bottle? And a cool bucket?
|
guy
|
can provide corkscrew - but all my buckets lack any form of street credibility
|
Ghilliegumdrop
|
Oh well, warm fizz it will have to be!!
|
guy
|
you don't need a corkscrew to take a cork from a bottle of bubble. This could explain where you have been going wrong.

They do it different down there!
Anyway just goes to show how much I drink!!

TresallierI've done the deed
Very helpful young lady on KC stand who checked it out for us and then was able to assign us the name. and after that take money off us. their show offer was a name change for two dogs for free.

affixSo what is the final result?
Can we have Ellie and Topaz' full names please?
|
guy
|
Topaz becomes - Tailliside Waterchestnut of Tresallier.
Ellie - is not my dog - still her fosterer.
Barley - who the girl pulled out of the database as ours - stays as he was.
|
Annie as admin
|
namesYes, right that Barley stays as he was - you gave him a good name when he adopted you.
Have you not decided about Ellie yet? If you haven't I think you have a problem, because I think she has made the decision for you from what I saw on Thursday

Names change - it would have been nice to get Topaz into Topaz's name - but the offer was for affix addition only; I also thought youcould not change a dog's name once it hade been shown - or is it only once it has won somethng?
ellie. If she has a choice she would ask to stay here I am sure. We would happily keep her. i will have to talk to the owner talk through a way forward.

Mugi
|
My understanding is you can't change the KC name with the addition of a Kennel Name once it has its Stud Book Number.
I think I will add to Mugi's name so he has the same style of name as his 'brothers', hopefully Liz and Bill won't mind.

No problems as far as we're concerned
