For fun... What breed would you have (apart from a Brittany) which may tempt you for various reasons???
I must admit to a " penchant" for a French bouledogue- with a slightly longer muzzle - and that will be when I am probably old

Come on , you can do better than that Why and what attracts you to them? Would you hunt them, show them, just pets?
A little Frenchie: I used to go to obedience classes with my Field Spaniel( horrible bitch!) and used to train with a pied Frenchie. She was a great character and a clown...And no need to train them to any extent, so an easy life

The mini wires have the same coat as Hester, and they are such tremendous cheeky characters. I think I might work them - plenty rats about - could maybe even have a small business

My geriatric dog would probably be an Australian or Border Terrier.
Walk to show, and yet they have the same playful energy
and love of retrieving that my Brittanys have, and I like to do a
"little" bit of grooming.

Before I got Annie I looked long and hard at a number of breeds to fullfill both the pet and hunting companion role and kept coming back to the Brittany and with the exception of the hip dysplasia which has been a real bugger couldn't be happier with my choice. My second choice would have been a Weimeraner but the additional size and the fact that a few have commented some are a bit timid or physco (don't know how much truth is in this though) and I ended up with my Brittany Annie.
Cheers,
Waldo

I know you will all understand but I don't even want to think about life with another breed!!!! I just hope that we are all well and healthy enough to keep a Breton/s in ours lives for as long as absolutely possible.
!!!!!Vive le Breton!!!!!

Having had Weimaraners for 30 years - and having only lost Toby our last one this summer - they are very close to my heart. Though I don't know where I'd go to get one I liked both so far as temperament is concerned also for looks. I like the old fashioned German heavier type, and so many these days are more American elegant.
For a smaller dog I quite fancy the Bassets Fauves de Bretagne - I love the colour and the coat texture - but I don't know if I could cope with their hunting instinct. So many owners I've spoken to say they daren't let them off the lead, and that's not much of a life for a dog, is it.

I don't think you would go wrong choosing a Miniature Schnauzer. Otto is so calm and laid back. Such a fun dog to have.

If we didnt have Brittany's we would have either a Jack russell or a Westie (West Highland white). Plenty of attitude and character.
Barry recently mentioned he would like a JR some day - so for christmas, I got him a "Perfect Petzz" Jack Russell - you know; the toy model, complete with battery that makes it look like it is breathing and snoring!
It is so realistic - at first glance it scared our cats!

It might seem a bit greedy but here's my wish list:
Retriever - I don't think I'll ever change from my labs, but some of the Holway Goldens come close to the speed and hunting drive I like.
Spaniel - If I did a lot of beating I'd seriously think about having a working Clumber, I've seen some lovely examples the past few years.
HPR - A friend had a Korthals Griffon in for training and I was impressed, he was a nice size and worked well, but I'd need to see a larger sample to make up my mind.
Deer dog - Bavarian Mountain Hound, (I'd have to shoot a lot more deer than I do at present though!)

Was giving this a bit more thought the other day (don't often get time to think) and was pondering on the English Pointer, anyone had any personal experience with them?
Interesting question, when running 2 x different breeds in the field at the same time, does one compliment the other by working differently or does it just get hard to manage?
Cheers,
Waldo

I have no experience of this at all, in fact little of working my dogs either. John H has both Brittanys and a Springer - he might help, but logic tells me that you would have to have them both very obedient.
