Getting dog to focus on me?

Hi,
Annie my almost 12 month old Brittany seems more interested in everything else that goes on instead of paying attention to me. When we do obedience she is more interested in everyman and his dog (pardon the pun - it's an ozzie saying if you don't get it), she watches other dogs or people around the ground, gets her nose on the ground, etc.  She shows glimpses of good form but can't hold her focus for long as everything else is more interesting.
It seems to be holding us back, how can I get her to focus on me and the task at hand?
Thanks,
Waldo

Hi Waldo
I'm sure you'll get lots of replies to this one.  I use the Steve Kimberley method.  Sit the dog to stay, move out to the circumference of an imaginery circle, start to walk round, and when the dog is watching you keep walking, but if it's attention wavers stop until it looks back at you, then proceed as before.  Go at least twice round the circumference, more if necessary till you keep the dog's attention.  I do this a few times a week with all of mine.  It is helping with Allez in his working training and with Freckles in her obedience, leading to agility.  Belle just does it for fun.
Over to teh rest of you for more solutions.

Hi Annie,
Thanks for that, it kind of sounds like a fun exercise for both trainer and dog. I'll give it a try tonight.
Thanks,

The Steve Kimberley books and DVDs are really good if you can get them.
