Goodbye to EliotHello All
Not sure if this is the best place to post this. Some of you may have spotted I posted recently under Health about Eliot, an elderly Brittany with a heart problem we re-homed from our local refuge in April. Thanks again to all those who replied. Sadly I had to take the decision to have him pts yesterday. Although we only had him for a few short months, he made a special place for himself with us. He was a real character and we miss him. I can see why people love Brittanies so much!
Despite being on medication for his heart condition, other complications suddenly cropped up and it was obvious he would not be able to soldier on much longer. It was only fair to him to say goodbye now. I held him in my arms while the vet put him to sleep, it was the least I could do for him as he hated being alone. We are pleased he did not end his days at the refuge but had some very happy times with us.
Bon voyage Eliot to doggy heaven....
Some good news - I can report that another Brittany which came into the refuge recently has been re-homed.

Run free Eliot ...............
Having lost Mugi to side effects of a heart problem earlier this year at nearly 13 and having him far to short a time (although longer than you knew Eliot) I know how bit a hole he will leave. But he was blessed to find you for his twilight and have you care for him and give him peace with dignity.

Feeling the hurt here. Barley was only with us a year but made his mark most surely.

My little 'Red' was only with me 5 months from when he was born with a blood vessel constricting his gullet - they bring their own love with them and it never leaves us. You may have other dogs in the future but they won't ever replace Eliot. He was so lucky to have found you for his last few months. Fly Eliot, the Great Gundog has called you.
