groomingthis is a 'how to groom an AB. but just look at the line up of the first three pictures. the conversion of an 'out of field' EB look alike to a show ring AB. Certainly an eye opener for the likes of me - as what you can achieve with a pair of scissors!

I was particularly interested in the sudden addition of a tail in the last picture. So just how do you groom to achieve that?

When we first spoke to Stan Smith about our first Brittany puppy from him, we asked him what preparation was required for the show ring - his answer "wipe his face, wipe his bum, and get in there and show a true working gundog, it's not a poodle" I've never forgotten that and all I EVER do is remove excess hair on their ears and under the tail, and trim the hocks to neaten them. A bath isn't usually necessary as they are in fresh running water fairly regularly(unless the natural instinct has taken them to roll in something wonderfully aromatic - in their eyes at least ). However, speaking with my Judge's hat on, there is nothing I hate more than a greasy, sticky, grubby coat

Must admit that Ghill had a bath after the working day........first one she has had for about two years. There again she does go into clean running water as often as she can, just like Annie's.

I'm with you on that one, Sue Still it is very interesting to see how their dogs are presented. I can imagine my boy's reaction to the dremelling of his nails
Thank you for sharing that with us, Guy.

I quote from the FCI Standard which I thought was what they used in America | Quote: | | Partially covered with wavy hair, especially in the upper part, the extremity being covered by short hair |
This is not what it says in that article - it says | Quote: |
The Brittany standard states that ears should carry little fringe. | Our own standard merely says "Relatively wide and rather short with slightly wavy hair"
This is just one small point but we must remember these differences between the American dogs and ours.
I think the tail showed up after grooming because the dog was being baited in the last photo but not in the other two. This is very interesting. The dog I had in the Open Dog Class at Crufts was extremely well groomed for its breed, but I have to admit I prefer them the way we have them here and in France
