Health Tests Made EasyIn this months Shooting Gazette there is, IMHO, a very good artlcle on the importance of health tests with concise explanations of some of the ailments and the tests that go with them. Whilst the article majors on labradors, I'm sure it could and should be applied to all gundog breeds. I found the writer's summing up put my own belief about the need for health tests into words far better than I ever could :
| Quote: | | "- because dogs can't speak, we don't know how much pain those dogs may have been in for all or part of their lives. I believe we must continue to embrace the health testing schemes available to all labrador breeders. Not just from a welfare point of view, but because if we have the future of the breed at heart we should ensure that those who will benefit so much from these most versatile of all gundogs will have a reservoir of genes that will help the labrador breed go from strength to strength." |
I am sure that we could quite justifiably change labrador for brittany in the above. I heartily recommend the whole article.
