Help!

Cedar has decided she will only eat her food if Chris or I....mainly me, are in the room with her. Gunner wolfs his down and then comes looking for hers and she will just let him have it, so as soon as Gunner is finished I put him out of the room so he can't bother her. If I saty in the room she'll eat, if I go out she refuses to eat and just sits by the door.

In my opinion I think that she thinks she's being punished by being left in there alone ... or maybe she thinks she's missing out and gunner is getting attention elsewhere???

Chis is of the mind to leave her and she'll eat when she's hungry, I'm thinking well it doesn't kill me to stay in the kitchen while she's eating but the problem is what will we do when she has to go into the kennels in June? Will they be so accommodating?

Has anyone else had this problem or have any solutions or advice, I'd be very grateful

My daughters cat did that for a while - they left her and eventually she ate without them there but now she won't eat if she can see the bottom of the dish even if there is plenty in her bowl.  So they have to keep it topped up.  Not sure which is worst Wink

I'm having a similar problem with Tegen and am doing pretty much the same as you. Both dogs are being fed at the same time but Remi finishes first and the looks to Tegen's bowl. Fortunately, I'm getting through to Remi that he's not to disturb Tegen whilst she's eating.  Tegen has had a couple of problems of late which could explain her behaviour but what has changed with your two? Something must have caused this.

Well she's never been a great eater so I'm happy to stay with her when she's eating because she's started to put on weight which she needed to do.

Sometimes I even have to tell her to eat and sometimes she will and sometimes she will just sit with her nose colse to the food.

If I keep Gunner in the room she'll eat faster but that doesn't seem fair on Gunner as he looks so sad watching her eat. Crying or Very sad

Hi Naomi, if it is dried food, try adding some gravy to it - they seem to eat wet food quicker, it might work  Confused

I've done that, I give her tinned food, with jelly, gravy and biscuits, tinned food on it's own and dried food on it's own. Nothing really makes a difference  Sad

I'm hoping as she gets older that she'll change  Rolling Eyes

She's a monkey and a spoilt mummys girl!

A good tip I once received was to sprinkle some grated suet over the food, mixing some in with it - Atora for example.  It worked for Flash.
I used grated cheese in teh same way wiht Allez when he was off his food.  I don't worry about him now, with his ribcage he looks fat anyway. Wink

My Dionee can be finicky about her food but she is just so busy and such a stickypeek she has to be involved in everything that she forgets about her food which at her age I do not appreciate too much cos she is growing like a mushroom.   So I just make sure there is not too much going on...Gaston has days when he couldn't care a less about food and other days when he is a bit of a piglet!
