Intelligent dog toys...As it is so cold today..I spent some time looking for some new toys on the Internet. Raggers are now boring to my dogs, they demolish the fluffy ducks and geese to get the squeak out...and as my pup is very bright and needs a more " intelligent" toy. This is what I found:
http://www.nina-ottosson.com/index_english.htm.
Of course, the toys are Swedish.
Djinnie ( the baby) being always into mischief- she drags the cat by the ear from one end of the sitting room to the other, as well as leaps on the settee with her best pal ( Danny the Cirneco) is having an activity ball and I am thinking of one of those toys.
We have now started obedience with her, Danny, and my son's girlfriend's Border Collie. Gosh, this breed handles so accurately. He is bored at home and chases shadows on the wall. I wonder if such toys may help him as well as maybe bored Brittanys who need their brain stretching a little???

The BC will probably get on with them very well Patricia, while Brittanys are certainly bright enough I don't know whether they will find them engaging. Chase had a couple of problem solving toys and once he knew how to do it (and that didn't take long) he just decided to trash the toy .

Maybe if somebody gets one and their dogs find it too easy, they'll let you have it Jim

I have the Qulan - they love it but it doeswn't half ruin the furnituer as they bash it around

Wouldn't the dogs chew the 'bricks'?

That's why I like the Qulan - it is round, and knobbly and you put treats in it - it just ruins my antique furniture so I try to keep it in the kitchen. The problem is that big Hessie (GWP) with the BIG teeth, can carry it into other rooms!

For my pup, stomach rules( never had such a gannet!) so an activity ball may fit the bill. They actually quite like the Kong Wubba. It has a squeaky ball at one end, and the material is tough. Not wrecked as yet...
As for Chase, destroying things must run in the family. Baileys ( after I bought her grand mother a " Tuffie" bed - supposedly indestructible- chewed the corner and took the stuffing out
For the obedience, pup first, then in the next class, trying to see what can be done with this Border Collie
Only wish people had a different breed for a pet. These dogs should be out working or doing some activity...
As for the Cirneco, toys are an excuse to tear round the house. I have found his motivation. He retrieves dead rabbits well as well as the rabbit dummy. Next is to tie the rabbit behind the quad before progressing onto hunting them

Kong Wubba died in a few days courtesy of Chase - as did Tug-a-Jug and nearly my very expensive Treat'n'Train, for which he would have been dead pup if he had suceeded as it was imported at great expense!!
Sadly as Freddy has possession issues I do have to be careful with toys, stuffed kongs are fed in crates only, any food dispensing toy is a no no unless I am supervising and the Nina Ottoson toy we had has moved on as they just started trying to trash it.

Well, after moving on a Nina Ottoson Dog Brick (wooden) previously Brice today has been given a plastic DogTornedo!
I popped some food in and popped it on the rug. Fred immediately moved in to guard it
After moving Fred to one side I let Brice at it
Hmmmm
I'll check out the other side
Oh goody, a game I can play lying down
After less than a minute he could access all the chambers and checked them quite systematically
Tried Fred with it but it is not his cup of tea
So Brice and I took it to show Chase
Hmm - might trying playing this one without trying to kill it
So far so good, I will increase the difficulty for Brice tomorrow but leave it at simple for Chase as he needed his big brother to help him open the chambers as he was too impatient!!
It really shows me what a good problem solving brain Brice has though, deerhounds are not credited with being intelligent but given motivation they can be - or he can be certainly.
