Le Weekend

I haven't recieved info about this famous weekend yet - am i jumping the gun for details or are royal mail useless? Need to budget and need to know costs etc.
guy

you need to email the club sec'y Paul Yarrow.
Lin Dyke

Do they have your new address?
guy

TAN entries need to go to Margaret Green, Show to Paul Yarrow.  i would suggest you email Paul and say you wish to participate and follow up with the paper trail.  A phone call may be a good idea as the entry is technically closed but as you have not yet received the info i am sure he will make every effort.

Was this info posted anywhere else? We've not received anything in the post either and we were hoping to enter Remi for the show and TAN.
guy

I believe it is the secretary's policy to post out to all who have been at shows in the year before .
Patricia

I never received any schedule, info or anything either.
We are unable to come this year beacuse of the late harvest and all the work which goes with it. Also because of pups.
But, even had I been able to come, I would have been too late Crying or Very sad
We had entered last year...

Just one more reason why we need to discuss on line entries IMVHO

Absolutely - Donald didn't get anything either till he contacted Paul, so our bookings will be late as he hda to check his work shift pattern. Le Weekend is for EVERYONE - particularly for those who don't show as they can come on Saturday. So it is a mistake to send only to the previous show goers, and possibly even a financial mistake as the cost of postage would be far outweighed by the potential income.

George Tindal new member who had a Puppy from me didn't receive his Le Weekend info so I rang Paul up and he has sent them to him he said he has until Saturday to get the entries to him, not sure what dates Margaret wants her  paper work back  i.e. accommodation, tan etc.
It is definatly not too late to still enter the more the merrier  Laughing  Laughing
guy

The current policy for sending out schedules was decided some years ago by the committee - in an effort to optimise printing and postage costs and reduce as much as possible any wastage.

This year the vagaries of the post may have delayed some but every effort has been made to send details of the weekend to every entitled member

Some years ago people believed that the earth was flat.  While this belief is still held by some it does not mean that the rest of us have to hold  those beliefs

Even distribution of various documents, and notification of events via e-mail or access to the same on the website as an option would be an improvement.
Liz

My feeling has always been that while we could cut costs by sending some information on club events only to selected groups of members, Le Weekend is such an important part of the Club's year that ALL members should receive the info about it.
doganjo

I agree entirely, Liz.  I have heard already from this forum that we have missed out on at least 3 show entries (£10 a time at least) as well as dogs on Saturday at £5 a time, plus any profit on food etc.  But mainly, disappointed owners!
johnhod

Maybe someone needs to carry out an analysis of just how much is saved compared to how much is potentially lost by not sending info out to members.  Why don't people attend club events?  Could it be that they don't know about them?

OK, so everyone who has shown in the last year is supposed to have received a letter, though for some reason some haven't received them (probably a blip in the postal system).  How many of the club's membersip actually show?  Don't those who don't show (but still pay their memebership fees) deserve to be told about events?
Mugi

I agree, members need to be aware BUT the club can only be as good as the information it holds. In this instance though it does seem as though a fair few people have been missed out who should have known using the accepted criteria.

Are we confident that Newsletters are getting out to members? - I would think the best option to try and catch members with events would be to have a recurring BOLD calendar for events with contact numbers of whom to contact if no info is received. So for shows a contact for Paul if no schedule has been received say 8 weeks prior to the show date, for John A if no info has been received for the training days that are usually run the sat of a show weekend. Also a reminder to check the website regularly for event updates and perhaps on the diary section Closing Dates for Club Events could also be highlighted in the events section separate from the actual event, so a quick glance will show an approaching closing??

I think, as long as people keep their contact details up to date it is incumbent on the club to provide them with information.

Yes, there has to be a back up mechanism in case things go wrong, as they will, and I go with the suggestion of reminders on the web pages, in the diary and on the forum (as well as in the Dog Press).  However, members pay for a service and it seems that only a portion of them (those who show on a regular basis) are receiving information about events, other than those that appear in the newsletter.

Is this fair on those people who pay and are excluded because they are either new members or don't show?
guy

An option to receive snail mail must be kept open - the membership is not 100% on line.
johnhod

Totally agree.  I receive information by snail mail and then have the choice to enter via that medium or to use on line facilities.  The important thing to me is that I have the choice
Lin Dyke

Re' Le Weekend.  Have just taken a look at the BCGB site, under "upcoming events" it states  "brochures will be sent to all members in the summer".
