The sap is riz, there is where the Spring is!!!!!
Last night was so cold, completely unprepared for it!!! Had a big southerly change yesterday...left work early as there were no birds to shoo off the vineyard!!!! Start harvesting today...so the cycle yet again is nearly complete!

Things are just starting to cool off over here and the days are getting much shorter. Our top temps have dropped something like 20 deg C on some days from about 3-4 weeks ago, hmmm nice. No real sign of rain though!
Which only means one thing, hunting season is about to start. My oldest boy's U-17 cricket team has made it thru to the finals, semis this weekend and grand final the following if they make it, then it's hunting thru till next summer.
Cheers,
Waldo

Hope the cricket goes well - certainly better than England in WI's ................. won't raise the Ashes Tour (mainly cos I just don't see England doing anything worth me commenting on).
I am so looking forward to warmer weather .

Victoria, where we are you can actually hunt deer (fallow and sambar) all year round and if it wasn't for 40 deg. C plus temperatures and real mean nasty snakes we probably would.
From what I've heard/read of New Zealand hunting opportunities I would swap in an instant if I could.

Well the cricket season is now officially over, my sons team got kicked out of the finals without a ball being bowled, a bit (well a lot really) disapointing but that's the game.
As the saying goes "always look on the bright side of life" it's time to put all those hours training Annie over the long hot summer to good use and start doing some hunting.
Took her out this morning for her first walk in the scrub since the start of our summer just finished, she worked a treat. For the type of stalking we'll be doing she did good, always stayed close had the nose up when the breeze was in our face, when I stopped she stopped, worked real well.
Was planning on heading out next weekend but my sons busy, so Saturday week looks like her first deer hunting trip.
Cheers,
Waldo

Yesterday (Sat.) Annie came out for her first deer stalking trip, started off at daybreak (around 6.45AM) and kept going till about 11.00 when the day was starting to warm up. She worked a treat and kept going all morning, always kept within 10-15m and hunted real well, unfortunately didn't get anything or have a positive deer sighting but we did manage to flush a couple of things out of the scrub and one was definately a hoofed animal, she was real excited when this happened. This trip was in Sambar deer country, next weekend we'll head to an area that held good numbers of Fallow deer last year and hopefully we can get one on the deck with her. Today Annie is taking things pretty easy, resting up for next weekend I'm sure.
Cheers,
Waldo
