Welcome

Hi Tim
Welcome to the Forum. I hope you enjoy being here. You will see that we are in general a happy little bunch, with lots of problems and lots of tips and hints, but basically so besotted by this wonderful little dog that few of us will ever go back to any other old breed Laughing
Bailey looks a smart little lad, perhaps we'll see him in June or October at the Club events, assuming Steve gave you membership with your puppy Wink or you have since joined?
If you have any questions, someone out there will have had the same problem sometime and may have solved it, if not you may be able to solve it together.
Give my best to my good friend Steve next time you speak to him. He is a member too but has never posted to my knowledge. No problems maybe Wink ?

Hi Tim,

If you do have any problems training Bailey going to the June or October event would be really useful, even if only to confirm that you're not the only one who's struggling.

Is this your first Brittany? I'm new to the breed , but don't think I'll want to be without one now.

Many thanks for the welcome. Steve did say we get a years free membership but not had anytime recent to take up anything of use Wink

Yes this is our first Brittany and likewise, wouldnt be without him for anything.. Will make a really good attempt to get to meet some of you in later this year Wink

Hi Tim and welcome from me and the Brats.

You'll notice that most of the pictures are of Brittanys pointing, sitting or swimming. Try to get one of them moving and you'll probably miss it or just end up with a blur.
Annie as admin

Just about blew my brains out but managed to avoid the blur Wink Laughing

What's that then, a bomb site??
Victoria

Annie, wot blur, they are sitting down!!!!!!! Laughing Laughing
Annie as admin

Yup - they ARE sitting down - after a hugey blast on the stop whistle. Wink Ther are on the piece of land between my chicken run and my field. The gate behind Allez goes to their outside run. It isn't a bomb site, it's a seedbed for Groundelder, Nettles, Clove, Thistles, Tansy and every other b y weed you can think of. We have tried Roundup, Sodium Chlorate and Path Clear to no avail. Goats are the next step I think Rolling Eyes

A bit late but welcome to the forum Tim & Bailey. We are not too far from you, at Winnersh, between Wokingham & Reading. Jim, the other half, is also in IT.

Annie, re' the weeds, a tip from an old hand locally is to wait for hot weather, soak it with Roundup, then apply a really thick mulch to block out all light, any roots will then develop between earth and mulch. After an (unspecified) time, you remove mulch, roll up roots and burn. It's as easy as that apparently Exclamation Question Laughing
Ghilliegumdrop

You can also use black plastic sheeting after the Roundup.
I have some thing that I could put under the plastic that would kill the weeds stone dead. Fortunately she's going home tomorrow! Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

You are REALLY horrible. Twisted Evil If you think I will EVER live next door to you, you have another think coming Shocked
Only joking - I know you don't mean it Wink
Thanks for the tips on the weeds I'll try both. Someone once suggested newspapers as a mulch but they blow away if they are dry Crying or Very sad

Bailey

Hi Lin,

Apologies for late reply, been a little tied up especially as Bailey decided that he didnt like the new flower beds and turf and thought it great to dig it all up for me Shocked

Winersh is just up the road from me.. Do you get down to Dinton Pastures at all?

Tim
Lin Dyke

Hello Tim, Dinton is a regular for us as we live about half a mile from it. Do you ever go there?
Shame about the flower beds. Our garden is divided into dog and human areas. This was done due to my sons' late springer trashing the lawn and then "H blocking" the kitchen when we were out Shocked (We have a dog flap.) Josh our first Brit' was a bit of a digger, Rudi our current one isn't too bad but Zac, the springer we have now, is just a bulldozer Rolling Eyes I seem to recall someone else having digging dog probs, will try to post a photo of our set-up as it could be useful to others.
Tache

Yes Lin please post your layout, my mother in law nearly broke her ankle in Taches latest pot hole!!! Rolling Eyes Jenny
Annie as admin

I stopped letting my fields to my farmer friend in case she sued me for broken cows legs. Embarassed We have what we call "Hester holes" (GWP holes are a trifle larger than Britbag ones! Laughing Rolling Eyes

What a lovely neat well laid out garden. How on earth do you keep it that way with those beasts around! Rolling Eyes

Tache

Thanks Jim and Lin!! So you trap the Brits near the house on the patio and use the rest of the garen! Fantastic idea, prehaps I could slightly enlarge your idea and have a children trap area as well Laughing I love your use of stone and paving around your seating area. Do you find your pot plants on your patio get chewed though??Tache pulls plants out of tubs, and nibbles on my olive and nectarine!!!!! Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Jenny
Lin Dyke

The boys have a thing about the honeysuckles but they seem to survive the odd nibble (plants aswell as dogs Laughing ) and Rudi thought the clematis flowers were delicious Rolling Eyes Josh used to pick out the tips of the oregano and marjoram plants and the cat loved parsley Smile We gave up on lawns about six years ago but our layout could work just as well with soft landscaping. We still have a grass bank behind the pond, Josh's ashes are buried there. All children that visit love the pond and can't resist throwing stones into it, the gravel is quite thick and surprisingly soft, if that makes any sense Confused Thanks for your compliments, it is a garden that has evolved over the years and we love it.
Bailey

Hi Lin,

Great setup, if only the garden was as wide it would be a good idea.. Unfortunately, our patio area is at the end of the garden Confused

Have been to dinton once so far, we have a large MOD area very near us (junc 4a M3) and it's teeming with rabbit. Bailey just goes mad and runs all over the place chasing, so great exercise Laughing

It certainly switches him on and as he doesn't catch them he has started stalking now which surprised me.. Must confess, I still have never known a dog to have sooooo much energy and stamina
