norfolk and Suffolk novice FTWe ran in the Norfolk and Suffolk Field Trial Soc'y novice Ft today at Titsey near Westerham, Kent.
We never made the water but were not put out. I was really pleased with the new whistle control (changed the stop whistle a few weeks ago) but luck was not on our side - both our runs were on bramble filled deep ditches (and I mean deep) The dog worked hard and well and put out a number of birds. His retrieves were on unseen birds.
We unfortunately did not have a chance to prove steadiness to flush and shot after a point - as we were always in brambles.
For me the best bit was having him work hard and then pulling out and sending him for an blind retrieve. Well Pleased that he made the switch from hunt to retrieve. The work has paid off after all.
What stood out on the day were the participants - what a friendly bunch who without exception supported good dog work even at at the expense of their own effort. Seriously refreshing.
Secondly the judging - the judges supported what the dog did rather than what it didn't. Nice.
good quality feed back from the judges. Will certainly go there again.
