Over due helloI have been a member for some time now and have enjoyed a good deal of the post's made, So i thought it was about time i said hi .
I have 3 britts fern who is 10yrs in march gill 3yrs and molly1yr old.
My main interest is shooting over my dogs and this season has been a good one shooting over the older dogs , It has been gill's first full season and we have had some good moments.Rough shooting
I also pick up with the older dogs especially runners after drives when i have been a standing gun.Molly is bursting to go but she will have to wait until february. If anyone out there lives near me and is just starting out working britts i would be happy to meet up.

Hi Dave
You are very welcome. We have a number of shooting members of the forum and one or two novices like myself just strating out on the training side of our breed (I've had them for 25 years, but only now training one with the hope of trialling eventaully)
I don't know where Rochdale is - Yorkshire somewhere? - but I'm sure someone out there will be happy to meet up with you and your troop.

Hi Dave
I live in Liverpool, so not too far away. you'll have to forgive Annie for placing you in Yorkshire but to the Scots England is just a place they send their reject politicians to ruin.

Yes i have been reading the training logs and everyone has ups and downs its all part of training , Britts are different to the spaniels and Labs i have trained , But more rewarding when it finally comes right. My first dog was an Irish setter so you could say i never learn

I think we did meet Dave, but I didn't realise it when you posted. I never did go back to those sessions as they didn't seem to appreciate the different needs of HPRs and I didn't think I was going to get a lot out of watching labs doing long distance retrieves.

Have you some pics of the girls for us? And what is their breeding lines? I have the Club database on my computer so I can look them up. We just found out that Guy's Topaz is distantly related to my three, through my posting about one of the first Brittanys to come to the UK being trained for deerstalking in Perhtshire - he was Puk des Pigenettes.

Rochdale is in Lancashire Annie The Pennines are to the English as the Cairngorms are to the Scots But I'm sure you know that really

Is that in Australia?

Correct John , i had been invited down to speak to the HPR owners as they quote "did not know anything about HPR's" that was obvious when i was asked to send my spaniel for a retreive !!!!!!. that was a waste of a 100 mile trip

To add to the other post, I was under the impression that if you didn't have a Lab it was your own fault.
Ann ,Gill is the sister to Rochus Viviane and Volcan and Molly is out of Viviane

I was talking to someone else, who had taken a young springer along to one of their sessions. He was asked to send it out (he said about 400 yards) for a retrieve. When he told them that he didn't think the dog would go that sort of distance he was told it would be no use as a gundog then. When asked what he'd do if a shot bird fell 400 yards away from him he came up with a solution that seemed to confuse them. He said he'd walk closer until he was at a point where he was confident that the dog would retrieve from.
He didn't go back again either.

Ah, so they have ski-ing, sledging, iditarods etc there too
|

That's right Annie, but they tend to do the activities on snow in the Pennines

We haven't had snow for ages, I have been out rough shooting today with gill, nothing but mud she looks like a racing whippet, this heavy ground really takes it out of her, but she does try hard as they do.

We have ski-ing here in Berkshire too Annie, thanks to John Nike and his artificial slope I think there is also a toboggan run there now There are dog-sled races held at Wellington Country Park, which is just across the county border, in Hampshire. So who needs snow to take part in winter sports

Hi Dave
Pity about today, I blame your cartridges!! I think it's time you invested in some new ones. Still it was good to see your Brits working so well.

Hi Keith
I went on to one of the other farms when i left you and saw more in the first 10 mins than we had seen all day, I ended up with 3 mallard, 2 pointed in the reeds and all 3 retrieved by Gill , The pheasants wouldn't hold with the lack of cover and made a quick retreat on my arrival, They obviously hadn't heard about the dodgy cartridges .....
