Mugi

Please wish Mugi all the bestI have had a mare of a day starting when I should have been taking the small dogs out to a fun day.
Brice was clingy and "not right" so I decided to stay home and thank god I did as Brice was soon at the vets bloating. The positive for him is that he didn't proceed to torsion and he has been deflated. Before going to collect him I took Mugi and Freddy for a walk (it was going to be Chase as well but thankfully I changed my mind).
Mugi as always was loose and part way into the walk he was savaged by an unattended and unknown to me dog . Those of you who know Mugi will appreciate that this is just so unfair - he is a very tolerant dog who although not one to stand down if challenged is unlikely to provoke.
It took me ages to disconnect this dog and the way he was clamped onto Mugi makes me think there may have been staffy type in there as certainly the mode of attack was terrier like. Poor Mugi is ripped around his neck and chest, has puncture wounds in his face and he has lost at least one tooth. He is totally shocked and is holed up in the car transit box which is a dark place, he does not want to come out so I am leaving him in peace if he feels safe there. His wounds are not sutured at the moment and he managed his pills as the vet felt he was so bruised that injections would not be the best idea.
I am also bitten so have had a trip to the local minor injuries unit for dressings and antibiotics, thankfully I am up to date with tetanus and I can't be sutured either cos of how my finger is ripped. I would never normally try to physically interfere with the sharp end but I couldn't see this dog trying to kill Mugi, Mugi was pinned in such a way I doubt he connected once in retaliation.
Off to bring Brice home soon, I need a drink but having AB's I need to be good and not too indulgent.

So sorry to hear of your attack we went through a simular thing about 3 years ago and lost a dog through it, our thoughts are with you & Mugi

So sorry to hear of your appalling experience Sue.
I hope both Mugi and you recover without too many mental scars...What is it with people not controlling their dogs if they know them to be unstable
I guess your poor old dog will be quite shaken up and scared for some time. Did you see the owner of the dog? Did he/ she offer compensation for the vet's bill? Or was it a dog roaming alone?
Such animals should be muzzled or destroyed, they are a liability.
Hope you soon get over this...

Hi Sue,
our thoughts go out to you and Mugi - have been through the same recently, I hope that there are no long lasting scars both physically and mentally. Monet still doesn't mix with other dogs!! Big hugs for Mugi XX

Mugi
|
Thanks everyone, he is still wanting to stay out in the car but he will have to come in soon as I don't want him outside all night.
I hope it won't cause him any lasting problems but we will take it easy mentally and certainly physically as he will take a good while to get over this mauling.
I have no idea where this dog comes from or who owns it, it looked in good condition but who knows, I will keep my eyes open and make sure I have my phone with me to take a pic but it wasn't wearing a collar so I doubt I will get any recompense or an apology.

Oh, what a shock for both you and Mugi Sue....our thoughts are with you and I hope Mugi recovers quickly. Have you rung the dog warden [if you can get hold of him/her] as next time that dog attacks it could be a child. Some people should be banned from keeping animals
|
Patricia
|
Janet is right...You should maybe consider ringing the warden.
Attacks like this only makes it easier for the anti dog brigade and banning dogs to be off lead everywhere like many seem to want in public places...
|
Mugi

I will ring the Dog Warden although I can't give a whole heap of detail and we were off the normal dog walking routes. It is still better to report the incident though, even if it doesn't bring the owner to justice.

I am so sorry to hear of your confrontation. I know what it is like to watch a docile animal being attacked by a beast. You were very brave, I hope that you both recover fully. x

My thoughts are with you and Mugi, Sue. A dog attack is an extremely frightening experience. We all just love Mugi and hearing of all the neat stuff he does.

Sue
I am really sorry to hear of the attack you and Mugi endured. I have been fortunate enough not to have had a similar experience and hope I never will. I hope that Muji very quickly learns to carry on as usual.
I'm a little surprised that the Kennel Club, in association with other animal welfare organisations, don't campaign, very visibly, against such irresponsible dog ownership. After all, attacks of this sort will be seen by the anti dog lobby as being evidence in favour of any restrictions they would like to impose against dogs and their owners.
Sorry Sue. I don't want to politicise your misfortune and really do hope that you and Mugi manage to put this episode behind yourselves as soon as possible.

Dear Sue And Mugi, we are very sorry, angry and upset to hear of the attack on two such special people.
This kind of thing just should not happen to anyone (least of all to yourselves.)
Mugi is so placid and such a natural gentleman. He is much loved by all who know him, either in person, or by reading about his wonderful life with you Sue.
Sending you both big hugs and wishing you both a speedy and full recovery, physical and mental.
Love, Lin, Jim, Rudi, Copper and Zac.

P.S. Hope Brice is making good progress too.

Thanks everyone.
Brice is fine thankfully and has managed a very light breakfast - he is now asleep on the rug.
Mugi would not let me bring him inside last night so slept tucked up in the transit box. He is looking a little brighter this morning although he is still not ready to come out and face the world. He has had his meds though - the power of cocktail sausage , and he had some rice pudding too as I don't want him having the painkiller without something in his stomach and he lapped a small portion of that up.
He needs his wounds cleaning and dressing later but I will leave him in peace for a while and see how he feels a little later.
I am a little happier with him today - at one point yesterday evening I wondered if this would be too much for him, yes he is fit and tough but he is also an old man to have this happen to him, I am more positive now.

Fingers crossed, Mugi continues to bounce back quickly... how are your wounds? Take care and a speedy recovery to you both xx

Hehehe, my finger aches like ****************** but not too bad. My dressing needs changing on Wed unless I have problems before. Working nights tonight and tomorrow and as I am based in an Emergency Department overnight at least I can get it seen too if needed .
Mugi will come to work too, he will be safe and snug either in my office or in the car - whichever he prefers. A friend is going to stay with the others overnight as it is too soon to leave the big boy overnight.

Soooo relieved to hear you are all making progress. Those first 24 hours are the most worrying.
|
Mugi
|
He has been out , he had a short potter round the front garden, a huge wee, an equally huge drink then he tried to clamber back into the car. I have compromised and set him up on the rear seat so I can get to him easier and give him cuddles.
He obviously doesn't want to be near the other dogs and I do hope he will get over this as it will cause me a heap of trouble if he can't get back to our previous routine. He won't be forced though while he is still so sore and wobbly, within reason he can do what makes him safe and secure in his mind.

Only just catching up on this. So sorry to hear about Mugi. Hopefully he will make a full recovery, though at his age it will probably take longer than with a young dog.
Hope your hand heals quickly as well.
This should be reported to the warden as a smaller dog wouldn't have any chance against this bully - and as others have said, what if it had been a child.

Sorry to hear your bad news. Like Liz I'm only just catching up with what's been posted since yesterday morning. I hope you both recover quickly, it would be a great pity for Mugi to miss out on the training he seems to enjoy so much

Rather belatedly, may I add my best wishes to you & Mugi for a speedy recovery. I know this will sound odd, but I'm a Reiki master and I will send some reiki healing to you and Mugi. Just sit down in the evening should you wish and ask the universe if there is any Reiki out there with your name on it.
With all good wishes Glynis & Fen

How's things Sue Is Mugi feeling a bit better today....and how are you as well
|
Mugi
|
Mugi is doing well TG, he is eating, drinking, pottering much more freely (although on a reasonable dose of pain meds) and his wounds look clean. His neck and throat area is very bruised and tight but he is such a stoical little dog he is letting me clean him up.
My finger has been redressed and looks ok and my ab's have been changed as I obviously don't 'do' Augmentin.
We are all on the mend .
Thanks for the offer of Reiki Glynis, I don't fully understand it but I do know that my WSS loved the sessions he had when his back was bad.

I have spoken to the DW and she feels she has an idea where the dog will have come from - shall we say fairs in the area and leave it at that??
I am going to avoid the area for a few weeks regardless, the boys can all get most of their exercise at the shooting lodge if needed.

Hi Sue
How's Mugi today? Hope finger has got the all clear.
|
Mugi
|
Well, Mugi is much brighter and came out with me today when I was training Chase. He was not allowed to do much as he is on such high doses of pain killer and I don't want to over-stretch him.
He was social with Monty the ESS who is a little older than him and flirted terribly with Eve the Black Lab but he didn't meet the others this time as I want to be sure he has only positive experiences esp while he is healing.
I took some pics but they really don't show the extent of the injuries although they do show his sparkle is back .
These are clearing well although one is deep.
Pinching all the swollen tissue under his throat.
He looks as though he is a prize fighter and has no neck
Not really clear but the one side of his neck is a couple of inches thicker than the other.
He wasn't shaved at the vet as he was so shocked we felt it was better to get him home and all his wounds are clean under the fur, he is very good letting my scrub them and apply cream. He is just starting to itch though so will have to have his neck wrapped if he continues.

Glad he's back out in the training field and getting on ok with other dogs. How are your injuries Sue? Clearing up I hope.

Mugi

Yes thanks John, I finish my antibiotics sat and can take off my dressings at the same time although the steristrips can be reapplied if I am unhappy with how things are closing up. When I saw it yesterday I think it will be ok, I am now exercising the finger too and all is working although the bruising is pretty colourful .

These dogs are amazing, a week after his attack Mugi went to Mid-Herts Gundog Show, he was not entered and normally would have stayed home but he needed pills and I was not really keen to leave him.
He stayed in the car all day (I hasten to add we were shaded and at no time was he too hot - in fact the others were popped in the car to cool down ) but had a few potters around the venue outside. He loves Crispin the pup and they had a nice walk together but better still in many ways he was pulling towards other dogs at times and he showed no fear or aggression.
He is healing nicely and I am now confident this won't have caused too much harm long term!!!
