Proud of my Brittany's

The last few days have been pretty grim, Evesham has been hit very badly with flooding and although my home has stayed dry we had some pretty scary moments, in particular on Friday night.

For 36 hours we had the constant noise of large helicopters doing rescue work, I have been looking out for elderly parents and the neighbourhood has been in turmoil.

Of my four dogs two have been troopers, Mugi has been off colour last week but has told the helicopters off when they have disturbed him (swine also decided to swim in the Avon which was a total heart in mouth moment as I could have done nothing to save him) and he has sailed through all the upset with aplomb. Freddy the WSS has been sick a few times as he hates his routine being upset and he is noise phobic so Wessex helicopters flying constantly have scared him. Brice the deerhound is still off his food and hasn't eaten a meal since the flooding started on friday evening. Chase has treated everything as a great adventure.....he has joined Mugi wagging and barking at the helicopters, he has been totally unfazed by all the sirens wailing and he just has such a zest for life!!!!

It is so interesting how the different dogs have approached the upset as I am sure they will have felt my anxiety!!!!

One thing I have realised while we wondered about power and water supplies, I feed mostly raw diet (puppy has a mix) and if I had lost my freezer I would have struggled so someone will be stocking up on a few cases of NatureDiet for emergencies, the same goes for water as the boys are as dependant as children.

The scary thing too if you kennel or crate - remember where your dogs are if you are in any risk!!! I will not be leaving dogs in a crate downstairs for any length of time when poor weather is forecast - I saw how quickly flash flooding occurs in an area that I thought was safe, in the kennel I have at the moment they have the ability to climb higher but when I upgrade that will be a consideration too.

Hi Sue
Having seen all this on the news last night I really feel for you and thank god we are in an area where there are no rivers.
if there is any thing we can do please let us know.

Oh Sue, my thoughts are with you all; we have had flooding here too and it is positively alarming how quickly the water can become fearsome.

As you all know I live in Scotland and for once we have not had much rain, so I really feel for those of you in hard hit areas. I am so far away I cannot offer practical assistance but I watch the news and think of my many friends down South.

We are fine thank you, all is 'normal' for me although the rest of Evesham is not so lucky. I thought I would share 3 photos that sum up the awesome and scary power of water - not great quality but they show enough.

A few weeks ago Freddy crosses a sleepy little river.

Friday night and the river is rising (about 10' above normal at that point)

.....and then last evening when we thought we would try our normal route. Looking at the river it had been at least 15' above normal and our bridge?????? a tangled mass of metal Crying or Very sad .

Being selfish I have lost access to a fab training area that houses game birds a plenty plus rabbit and hare for control training. We think we have figured a way to get there by car but in the past we could get there on an evening stroll and combine a burn of energy followed by a training session and finishing with a swim or play. Still, there are more important things to rebuild than our little bridge.
