Rogue Traders 19th FebruaryWho saw the programme last night on BBC at 8pm called Rogue Traders!!
They had the cutest Border Terrier on the bike - (I'm sure they will get plenty of comments on this!)
How do we educate the public not to buy from these people? Showed how useless the RSPCA are.
Was this another attempt by the BBC to get at pedigree dogs and breeders? As the last line was buy from a rescue centre!!!

Yes Joanne, I totally agree with you...Push the " rescue" dog thing...I have all the sympathy in the world for abandoned dogs, cruelly treated... but...( if older) who could be scared mentally, maybe with all sorts of "issues" ie separation anxiety, agression, not good with kids, chasing cats, all sorts...
You need a very very good rescue centre to truly assess the nature of the dogs and match them with new owners.
And let's face it, if they don't, the dog is returned even more stressed, passed on maybe more than once...and then...no longer trust humans. It has even happened with Brittanys.
For those who take on such dogs, I take my hat off to you
So, yes a good program alerting the public to puppy farms and pet shops...just wish they had commented on buying from a " proper breeder".
Hope you are all aware that the " Antis" ie " Veggies" are planning an Anti Pedigree dog campaign outside Crufts.
They are said to be linked to PETA( check them out as Joanne pointed out to me )
I will NEVER ever support the RSPCA again. That Pedigree dogs exposed program was the pits and fuelled some much hatred...

Having had just a quick look I don’t know how true it is but this

could lead to an amusing conversation outside the NEC

Yes they are rather useless, are they not the welfare people who endorse 'freedom food' and are they not having to prosecute a turkey farm that 'supposedly' met their standards

But, if we do not have animal welfare charities, who else will look out for the welfare of unwanted animals?

In that case Patricia could you please tell these people outside crufts to stop generalising on the name Veggie

I didn't see the programme but from the thread I have a number of comments.
First - I have only ever had pedigree dogs at my choice. Of the 9 dogs three have had health issues that to a greater or lesser degree may have been through poor breeding be that with or without malice.
I have also only ever had pedigree cats.
But then three of my pedigree dogs have also been either rescue or rehomed - so where would the BBC stand on that one ?
Second point. I have no respect for the RSPCA in general (esp as they wouldn't even lift a finger when I was looking to rehome my sisters cats after she died and I didn't want to leave them uncared for).
I have however twice been reported to the RSPCA and on both occasions I have had no problem with the officers involved, first occasion was when my sister had died and I had my then doggy family (Fred and Brice) living mainly out of my car on the drive. I had thought long and hard about whether I should kennel the guys through the terminal stages of my sisters life but after taking advice from a couple of behaviourists it was advised they lived their gipsy life. My sister had 5 cats (and Fred is a cat chaser ++) and two dogs and it would have been too much for all to share the house. The officer came, met the guys, was invited by me to see the digi images (date and time imprinted) of our long walks and also was asked if she wanted to contact the behaviourist. She declined - no follow-up needed. Second time was also related to a dog in the car and that was when Mugi was savaged by the Staffie type and he was too shocked to leave the transit box for over 24 hrs when we returned from the vet. Again, after an explanation of the circumstances and meeting Mugi, Brice, Fred and Chase and a (challenge ) to call the vet to confirm if needed that case was also closed with no follow-up.
As for Animal Rights Activists in whatever form. We are all entitled to an opinion but no one has a right to intimidate, threaten or harm in their pursuit of animal rights. Animals do/should have rights and while the Animal Welfare Act is flawed (IMHO) it is also there to protect animals. I do not agree with animal testing, battery farming, puppy farming and I am prepared to debate my beliefs with anyone - calmly, rationally and only if they want to engage in the debate.

I take great umbrage that a protest group can call themselves veggies...vegetables are an very important part of nutrition and to garner notoriety or publicity is just plain dumb in my view. The poor cabbage has its name used to describe imbecels and this is what these people are.
Vegetarians on the other hand are those that choose for whatever personal reason to abstain from eating animal flesh.
Talking about pedigree dogs...my sister has imported a dog and we have discovered that our importation protocols for this country are not as we thought to keep our nation clear of rabies etc...but a bureaucratic minefield to dissuade those citizens wicked and presumptive enough to aspire to import AN ENTIRE DOG/BITCH.

When are people going to start saying enough is enough of this bollocks...Patricia, I have never supported the SPCA here...when they can attack a farmer for a sheep with staggers yet there are horses in fields they must drive past every day suffering from malnutrition.

Victoria, I go along with what you say...I never contact the RSPCA, I am one to be really angry before I do so. At the end of our drive is a meadow with 6 or 7 horses ( 5 acres of land). They are Thoroughbreds, fine coated and are on the field until January- Frebruary- with 2 wards of hay per horse, no rugs, no field shelter, no fresh water but a pond, no hard food, in the rain, backs up against the hedge, barbed wire fence near road. The horses do get out, and the worst of it is people ring me thinking they are mine! I called and being fair, officers of the RSPCA came. But guess what? No action taken but a warning.
Nest time, I will take them hay
I can go on with what I think...
Sue, you won't get arguments from me...
Sorry for not mentionning Veggies org are just that, an organisation.
Eddie, I love vegetables, I am a carnivore but whatever people eat is their choice. It is a free world as long as you don't force your opinions onto others and agree to disagree.
Eddie, a useful pice of info: Did you know the humble carrot was purple until the Dutch changed it to ...Orange True fact....

Did I say something Not calling me a vegetable are you?
I've no issue with vegetarianism, peoples religious views or whatever. As you say, it's when people demand that others take their view that the problems begin.
Yes I knew about the carrot thing. Shame really, snowmen's noses would be more realistic if carrots were purple

Let me tell you a tale...I love vegans...they are fantastic...why???? cos it means that we omnivores get to wear all to ourselves those glorious woollen tweedy particulars, gorgeous merino cardies and the like, lug around fab bags and wear the darlingest of heels...but wait there's more...slide the Beretta into the leather slip, take the PEDIGREE dog out on her handmade, yes, handmade leather lead and collar ensemble with the brass trims, all made out of delicious animal stuff...boy, do I love a gin after birdscaring for @%##!!* hours....yes, I am ratty...I'll get another, oh no, no more ice!!!
As an adend, my mother admonished me for drinking alone...(wah, wah, you'll become an alcoholic, yardy, yardy)...I think she would have liked to have slapped my face (thank goodness our conversation was via telephonic means) when I said "and share it with someone, you must be kidding!!!!

Ugh!! Eddie how could you
We must remember the RSPA does some good things also. They often rescue animals from the most appalling conditions. OK they are wrong about most pedigree dogs but until we have something better we need them. We must just prove they are wrong in this instance (and punch anyone who says otherwise)

I suppose we do expect them to juggle 15 balls whilst walking a tightrope. They are a charity after all. I would imagine that the people who work in the charity and have animal welfare in their hearts have a lot of interests and influences acting as obstacles to their intended path. Maybe we should all give more support to the RSPCA so that we can change their attitude from within

Eddie, that is hilarious....for me, what I find difficult with the SPCA is their oft times illogical INCONSISTENCIES. And like all these do good feel good groups the keyword is always CHARITY...you use that in any advertising or promotional stuff and you'll melt the hardest of hearts...doesn't matter the fact that you do not need to account for jot but YOU'RE A CHARITY so you must be alright...

I never had a problem with the RSPCA until they got involved in politics
Jess worked at the vet's for 4 years and was disgusted when they refused to pay for a little Lurcher found tied up to a fence with a smashed leg. They would not pay for the specialist and pinning of the leg. But told the vet to amputate
I read the Dog papers and the sorts of prosecutions they conduct against some people.
It looks to me that now people have less rights than animals in some cases
So, No, in my case, I would rather support the PDSA or Blue Cross.
Further, they were against hunting, docking etc...Now, they don't agree with Pedigrees in companions shows...so I read. What next????
