The point:When acknowledging scent,with a quick check,the dog must proceed forward with lots of authority and confidence to block the game.The point must be done standing,even if taken suddenly.If the point is taken by surprise, another position will be tolerated as long as the muzzle is high towards the game, proof that he dominates it.
Laying down forbids the CAC, however good the hunting is.
The coule is done with precision and care. As to keep the contact Master-game until the departure of the latter. Refusing to do "the coule" is an important fault.( apart from close proximity to the game)
The retrieve from water and ground must be done happily and fast.

Ok Anne...As we have a French breed, I'll explain what the French expect.
The " coule" is what is best described as" roading in". It means the dog is getting scent, approaches game step by step. He has to dominate the bird and must not bump or flush it.The handler is then close to the dog and fires a pistol when the judge asks for the game to be flushed. Hopes that is clear??!
