Snag free check cord?

I'm doing a KC training day with Remi soon and the blurb states that a check cord of at least 30 yds is required for dogs not under complete control.

Any (inexpensive)suggestions? for something which is readily available, or should be avoided?

Eddie, Patrick Morin from the Keranlouan kennel uses telephone cable...I nearly copied that with...some inexpensive washing line, not the thinner one. You can get diffrent lenghts and being slippery it does not snag in the grass or anything Wink

I have a piece of stuff I bought at the game fair - very pleased with it about £8.00. doesn't kink and is fluorescent orange.

I am sure you could acquire a length of round flex from somewhere.  You can buy P clips (the snap at the end of a lead) from pet shops for a pound or so depending on size.   so you can clip it to the dogs collar - a loop in the end does not work

Washing line (the thin one) will take your hand off given half a chance.  Sash cord snags to easily.

Don't forget some heavy gloves if you are going to use it as a brake.

Telephone cable. Now I wonder where I might get some of that from Wink
4pr? 10pr? I had discounted it as it has a tendency to coil and kink but will reconsider if it has been used successfully.

If it’s the stuff you had at Crufts it would be perfect, but I doubt I would be able to find any soon enough. Unless you have any info regarding the person you bought it from.

Did wonder about that

I was made aware of how vicious “whipping” cable or line can be when I was a youth with Post Office Telecomm’s. As for the gloves, I’d thought of that and intend to use my foot where possible. Mind you, that has its own pitfalls

Hi Eddie

Have a look on the dreaded ebay for cord - I got mine for a few pounds and it came the next day.  There is usually quite a choice mine is lovely and soft, but you still need gloves.

Thanks very much for the offer Guy. Blurb states at least 30 yards.

Keith, What section and search word(s) did you use?

Hi Eddie

Have a look in sailing in the sporting goods section and try a seach for rope and or cord.  I found them much cheaper than going to a chandlers.
