Unfortunately the Brittany Club and Norfolk HPR spring pointing tests on April the 19th clash...The N&S also hold their test on our land, so it will be difficult to be in 2 places at once Also need someone there to tell them where dogs are allowed to go and the boundaries...

Not sure I will put an entry into Bunwell and had volunteered to provide Brittany cover to a Game Fair for the next one.

I'm taking Remi on a KC training day on the 19th but would like to know what is involved in a pointing test as I'd like to take part in one if we're up to it.

Eddie - I expect to be processing an entry for you for the Heveningham SPT!!!! After doing one last year all you need to know is that your dog will cast off and come back...............eventually .
Seriously, it is very relaxed and all you really need is to be able to get your lad back. From what you learn on the KC day - shall we say you will have 110% more idea than I did at the SPT I did with Chase last year. Please please send in an entry as you will have a great day, good company and you will learn loads in a very supportive atmosphere. There is nothing better than seeing a good number of Brittanys getting the chance and even if they don't make the grade for the judges you will have a fab day.

How did everyone get on at Bunwell Spring Pointing test?
The N&S HPR held theirs at ours yesterday. It was a cold day turning sunnier in the afternoon with 11 dogs running.
Plenty of birds who, however, did not sit and ran- including pheasants-
The dogs on the day were assessed on their hunting ability as no points were achieved: the birds were lifting ahead.
The rape is now on flower and too tall to put dogs in and we know on a cold day where the partridges will be
Judges were Mrs Robertson.

7 runners including 4 Brittanys. Sadly none of the Brittanys were graded - Chase had two runs, first run he did some good work initially but I was scuppered by a hare. Second run he was patchy on his run across winter wheat then I was asked to work along a hedge, he went into the ditch and up came two ducks - without a Brittany . He didn't find any pointable game (granted nor did we miss any).
So, hares are an issue, whistle was intermittent as he thought he knew best and ignored his mum somewhat. He found waiting and watching very hard but I persevered and by the end he was heel walking on a loose lead. All in all I was not disheartened as we haven't had much practice running the wide sweeps of open land.
One Excellent - a SRHP that was lovely to watch. Then two Very Goods on the other Junior dogs, a GSP and a Hungarian Viszla.

Sue, who were the Brittanys? What is an SRHP? Slovakian?
Why did you have to do the hedge?
The N&S HPR were over subscribed here, we had a variety of breeds including 2 Brittanys( not mine as Alan had done his back in and in pain).
A really nice bunch of people, Sue Coveney made lots of buns and chocolate cookies for everyone whilst the judges made their comments.
They all had a nature " watch" from seeing pheasants, partridges, hares to 22 ...red deer. Oh and our usual couple of roe deer.
For Keith; No, they will not end up in Venison even though they are squashing the rape down and knocking the feeders over
We now look forward to the Brittany one
