Strange posesOur 9 month old Tommy relaxes in a very strange pose ! Front legs flat on the floor and bottom in the air - he seems very content. Does your dog do this? Is this a Breton thing?

Hi Bernice
This just looks like a play pose, an invitation to join in the fun that he has in mind. Does he hold the stance for a long time or move off after a few seconds of no one responding to him?
|
Bernice
|
Yes, he is very playful, you are probably right about it being a play pose. He frequently adopts this pose and seems very relaxed, he stays like it for several minutes sometimes. We have noticed a Breton who lives nearby also does it. Interestingly our other dog (a 10 year old English Springer) had never "posed" like that before in her life but has recently started to do it as well !

That looks like the position Moss takes when he is about to pounce at something.. Or someone
He also stretches like that, but I've never seen him relax like that.
It's quite a unique pose!

Watching him more closely I would say that Tommy starts off as a stretch then obviously feeling comfortable he just stays like that for a while. This frequently hapens in front of the radiator - warming his bum no doubt .....

On the theme of strange poses.. look no paws - notice where the shadow is

Nope - Topaz used to when he was a puppy in certain length crops - young wheat springs to mind. I saw him do it again the other day across a bramble patch :-)
Spronking for those who think I have swallowed a dictionary is the name for the action often seen in gazelle. They seem to bounce up equally on all four legs move forward and then down again.

My does spronk down the hill when they are full of the joys!! The Pointer and Setter Club are holding their Christmas Bash at one of the North Islands most noted pheasant preserves this coming Saturday, at which we will be enjoying a 50 clay shoot. Thought I better get some practise so hired the clay launcher, bought a box of clays and ammo, and we descended on a friends hospitality being loathe to discharge such rabid volleys at home ... might upset the guinea fowls!! The noon repast,Quiche Lorraine etc was taken under a ancient hazelnut tree in which quail are wont to rest in...Gaston entertained us beautifully by walking the entire circumference of the tree on his back legs whilst nosing the scent of quail. The Labrador man mumbled that G should be on the stage which was enough to encourage me to shoot better and so I beat him soundly in the next round!!!
Talking of interesting words, my father used the word saint john (sin jin) to describe a bull or pig sitting with their rumps on the ground but with their front legs vertical as a dog sits

Your Dad should have shown you how to do this long since. I thought you were the computer expert anyway?
You can have a second browser - download Mozilla Firefox for free from teh 'met and make easysearch the default home page on there. It's handy to have a second browser anyway.
