Tegen and me saying helloHello all
I've waited for the kids to grow up before getting another dog and finally, a few months ago, we got Tegen, our Brittany bitch. Gorgeous dog, complete idiot ( I thought my Irish Setter was a loony!!!!), only wants to love people (and dogs). I suggested we should name the next one Duracell. The idea of "the next one" didn't go down too well . I've a feeling I'll be lurking and, posting for refuge, sympathy and help on numerous occasions in the future.
Tegen will say hello properly when I get some half decent piccies.

Hi Eddie and welcome.

Hello Eddie and Tegen, welcome to the forum. I used to have Irish Setters before downsizing to the Brittany. Apparently there is a link between the two breeds (see TAILS section, tailed or tailless...page 6 question from Victoria to Liz) That would explain a lot then

We got Tegen from a bloke to the north of Harrogate. He works her mum in his job as a gamekeeper and has no affix. You have to go back two generations before finding any dogs I have found any other reference to, they are Bestobel Javron and Fleur de Giraup and are the parents of Tegens maternal grandmother. Dad is Brittyhill Vagabond.
I wonder if we have been cruel in subjecting Tegen to a sharp change in atmospheric pressure having brought her from the moorlands of Yorkshire and can now sometimes be seen walking her at (I believe)the lowest point in England, Holme Fen, a few miles south of our Peterborough home.

The website I found it on claims that it is Cornish and means "Pretty one". I don't know if this is true but it does work quite well in the Tigger song if you replace the word Tiggers with Tegens. We couldn't find a Breton name we all agreed on and thought that Cornish is the next best thing. I suppose somebody is going to tell me now that it's a Victorian creation from a book about fairies (or piskies?) or something.

Come to think of it Holly , my Setter, was quite good at reshaping the furniture, so I suppose there's not much in it. I take it the "Devil makes work for idle paws" syndrome is at least as strong in the Brittany character.
Thanks for all you replies.

I believe that spelt Tegin it was the name of Genghis Khan so heaven help you when she really gets going. Ghillie is a Brittyhill and I'm sure that Vagabond is her brother out of a different litter. All I can say is watch the washing machine!!

Nope, Vagabond has a different mother - Titile van't beikensbos. Ghill's Mum is Pastiche - same Daddy though!

Tegen is now 1 year old, a beautiful little girl, unlike any Brittanys (what is the plural of a region?) I have seen and testing our dominance. Is this usual at this age?
Could somebody tell me how to a post a picture on this forum.

Eddie
PS I did not mean that other Brits aren't beautiful. Just that mine seems to be different

I taught Ghillie to empty the washing machine as I had a bad back, it went very well, her taking things out one item at a time waiting for a cat biscuit and then getting another item out. Then one night she must have been thinking about this and realized she could open the machine door. I came down in the morning to find her sitting on a pile of wet washing looking very smug waitng for a handfull of biscuits:twisted: Since then I have to do the wash during the day and bang goes the cheap electricity rate Now Merlin is another matter, I wash small things like my gloves...put them on the radiator to dry, turn round and there he is with a silly grin and a glove in his mouth. Put it back, turn around and there he is again. He never chews them but I have now started to put stuff in the airing cupboard to dry. only problem is I forget where I've put them and cannot find anything He's also taken to lurking around corners with a teddy bear in his mouth There are two on my aunt's bed and one on mine, and every morning here he comes....... LURKING.....
