The colour " Tricolour"

Translation from Regis Toulet, Ch show judge.
" the fact that breeders declare their litters in "other colours" is a lack of knowleldge of the make up of the colours. We cannot blame them hence this article.
But the " experts confirmateurs", whilst confirming the dogs should rectify this mistake, declaring those dogs" Orange and White"
What is a tricolour?
A dog who has 3 colours you will tell me. Yes and No.
No, in the general sense, because it is not sufficient to have 3 colours to be a tricolour.
The tricolour coat is defined like this;
Black( Liver).liver.orange.white, which means Black ( or liver)marked with Orange on a white base. Which means that the dominant colour of a tricolour is the Black or the Liver and not the Orange
The marks of Orange are situated on top of the eyes,on the cheeks, under the tail, and sometimes under the elbows. The Orange is darker or lighter according to the subjects.
The dogs which are the reason for this article have a white and brownish Orange coat which can vary from yellow to red in fonction of the phaeomelamine -protein- which could qualify it as" agouti= like a rabbit)
or sable.
The subject Orange and White is a bicolour with a white base , more or less roan and must remain as such.
Must we carry on confirming those dogs?
Yes, certainly, we must not take the risk to do away with excellent subjects.

Would it not be preferable to mate those dogs with others with a  Black dominating coat, Black being a dominant colour to ensure we see this problem disappear, we should study the qestion or ask geneticists; like this has been done lately with the problem of the mutant gene which expresses itself by a Black patch on the coat of some Orange and White...

Must we plebiscite( make rules, make common) dogs showing this colour?
No, this colour is not to be encouraged in my opinion, because you run the risk to see it being developped for one reason or another,a fashion for exemple, of which we know the effects.
Even if a dog is excellent by its conformation he should not finish in the first places againts competitors of a well defined colour.
This is a personal reflection.
The question asked is: what attitude should the judges have when presented with a dog of such colouring?

The committee of the CEB is going to take a decision to even out the judging and the placings.
PS: it is in the CEB magazine that the coomittee is looking into these colours ...

Is the sable a 'new' phenomonen in the breed colours or is it recorded in the annuls of the breed as being present in yesterdecades??   It will be interesting to see how the comite rule on this.
Patricia

T be honest Victoria, I never used to see those colours before but they seem to be appearing. I was told by a French judge  that the Liver gene  was partly responsible when " mixing" it. I have no idea about genetics, that is what i was told...
I cannot never remember such colours at the French Nationales before Wink

I wonder is liver a corruption of the orange or a corruption of black????  I must say, my opinion only of course, that I cannot reconcile myself to the sable...each to their own, I know!!!!
