toplines

I am a little confused by some of the critiques seen in some instances: About toplines. and slope of croup  Question

I will quote Jean Louvet's book on both.
"
Level until the beginning of the croup...then slopes gently( from pelvis)to the tail.
Loin should be strong and straight, croup wide.muscular.
We would like a slope as the Breton is  a " Galopeur"( Galloping breed) but a medium gallopeur, not a fast one like the Pointer.
As Pointers and Brittanys's angulations are very different.[/i]

I enjoyed your last post about the toplines and critiques.  Have you seen the critique for Three Counties it makes interesting reading.

As I enter the critiques onto the clubs database I often  smile to myself when putting the data in and think have they read our standard.

Results speak for themselves, don't they?  Must be great fun putting those in the database!
guy

does it break copyright to post them here?  we don't all take the show dog papers.

How do we view the contents of the database?
Patricia

Jayne..you may smile Smile  but sometimes I could weep... Crying or Very sad

The last critiques seem to vary somewhat...Some want some sloping toplines.( Most Brittanys have level back) We don't want dipped backs or roach. If you were to lift the front legs of a dog and drop it gently, and position it, you could have a slope from wither to croup. Mostly, the back is level, as explained by Jean Louvet. These are HIS explanations. And If I don't know, I ring him.
Some get penalised for a slight slope of croup./( it has happened to me)  the latter is the driving force and it should be strong and well rounded. Like the COB OF CALLAC.
Anne and I agree about " bums"
Though we do not have eliminating faults, anyone can go to the French web site and read the FCI standard in details.Including the allrounders.
It will show clearly that some faults should be penalised severely. Rolling Eyes
At least we should bear some of those in mind in the UK Idea
Guy, maybe Jayne will post you the results...

You can't.
Only Jayne, Margaret and I have the programme.  It is limited by the Company who sells it.  The database itself would be ours but at the moment it includes personal data as well as that of the dogs.  We may be able to sort something out, we're working on it.

They aren't SHOW dog papers they are DOG papers.  There are numerous articles on the working side of all groups that do so, not just gundogs. And the majority of people who want to know what is going on in the dog world will take one or the other I'd have thought.
I can't see how it would break copyright but I'm not sure everyone would want all the show reports on here.  Let's face it, each report is a personal opinion.  You could have a situation of one week a judge rubbishing a dog and the next week a different judge giving it a CC - it has happened before.  Would you want both reports published on the same place of your dog?  The dog papers are slightly different in that you have to specifically look for your breed and for the show, then for a specific dog.  On here comparison of critiques would be readily available.

I wouldn't have thought so.  Is it not a requirement of a judging appointment to provide a critique which is then posted into the public domain, the historical method of which has been through the dog press.

Guy if you want any critiques just let me know and I will email them to you.  This week I am going to be a bit tied up as Richard is going to London for his operation which is being done on Friday but I will try and send them as soon as I can.  The critiques go back several years.

Jayne,
We will be thinking of you and hope Richard will soon be "a new man"
All the very best for his op, he is a very nice person and we look forward to seeing him( and you) soon back at the shows. Laughing  Wink

Well done at Blackpool, Jayne.   Sorry I was unable to get there, my knee is playing up just now, so 7 hours driving and all day on me feet would have been too much for it I think.
