Training cost pollPleas indicate how much you would consider the maximum you would wish to pay.
This is for a day with multiple participants and one or more trainers. Not what you would pay for a one to one session.

I have voted for £25 as that is a fairly standard cost. That also seems to be in line with an hour's one to one training - that's slightly more I believe

It would depend on the trainer

The maximum you would wish to spend is the most you would spend with your ideal trainer.

Well - I am used to spending more for all my lads for the right trainer (not always gundog) if the training was stand alone as opposed to a course.
Where I took Brice and Chase at the weekend was £30 for the two lads for 2 hours - then factor in my travel to Surrey, lunch on the hoof etc etc, I consider that cheap.
Like all things we pay what we can if we see value - I like to be taught to teach as opposed to just being taught as I find it challenges me more.
I know I am in the happy position of having a pretty well paid job that means I can have a home a (hired at the mo car) and I still have money for training my guys or for showing....wish I was a double income family at times to help some of the costs but I can't complain.

I can't complain either but I do know what I'd do with any lottery wins!

Does this mean that only 7 people would be prepared to pay for training?
Just pushing for a few more responses really

Perhaps it means only 7 people on this forum train their dogs We could try this on other forums - the working HPR one might be interesting

Isn't that idea of all training, that you are taught how to handle your dog?
Or are you talking about being taught how to teach people to train their dogs?

Sorry. I ticked £25. I have to admit that I do not know how much it costs to hire the ground for a day though

I ticke £25 as well. My reasoning behind this is that I can get one to one training for an hour at that price. If I'm going to share a day with 6-8 people I'm not likley to get much more out of that than I would out of the hour's session so the cast should be about the same.

i guess it depends on the trainer as tilly is only a pup i have not yet used a trainer ( this may have turned out to be a mistake only time will tell) if for £25 you learned something and took your dog home and practiced what you learnt for 5 days and both you and your dog had fun learning the new lesson then thats a fiver day what else can you do do for a fiver

Steve - there are times when it is best to save your money and buy cheese.
One of the truisms of using a trainer is 'the more you know the more you will learn'
Group events are good as you learn off your own dogs run and off others.

yes guy i see were your coming from its just a pity there cant be more informal club days and have a fun day to watch and learn at diffrent levels

Steve, the training days are usually anounced either here or on the BC site. Anything you need to know contact John Anderson or Sue Axtell?
I am thinking about a novice training day next year for those interested? We had a day for dogs ready for trialling last year and it was a great success.
Maybe, we'll look at something at a lower level as to disperse the " myths" about working events
Let us know what it is you're after...

I tend to use one to one only when I have a specific problem that
I can't solve (or if I think need access to a specific facility like a jumping lane or rabbit pen).

its a little difficult to explain but for people such as myself who have never been trialing or done working test with a gun dog but are keen to learn it would be nice if there was an oppertunity to bring a young dog along and have other members watch your dog work to whatever level it is at and then get some feedback from a group and then we could watch the better dogs work and give us a point to aim for i struggle understanding books but pick things by watching and listening
thanks steve

I would love to attend a day like the one described by Steve, it would be the best way to learn about how these dogs should work - not easy from a book - and so important to know when you are on your own!
I don't mind travelling, but sometimes can't allow the time, are there any training events in the midlands?
Catthorpe was great for me!

Richard goes to gundog training somewhere near Welshpool. Perhaps you should speak to him.
