WANTED

I am looking to buy a hunting collar for my naughty welshie (he has managed to lose his bear bell - git). I had found some collars in Germany with a large swiss style bell attached but can't figure out the website as I don't speak german - derr. I wonder if anyone knows where I can source one with international shipping as all my searches of google on the US companies have drawn a blank!

Thanks in hope.

Funny enough there has been someone on the Steve Wright show this afternoon selling bear bells for dog collars. This guy was a contestent on the quiz so if you go to the BBC radio 2 page you will probaly get his name. He has a website selling his stuff but I cannot remember what he called it.

i am in France next week i will pick one up from Decathlon - if they have any in stock for you. about 12 euro from memory

If you type in pet shops selling 'bear bells' for dog collars, you will find an ebay site that has them for sale. Make sure you click on the UK bit otherwise you go worldwide. Or you could buy a large parrot bell, they do the trick as I have one on Ghill's working collar [much to her ]

As a non hunting member please can someone explain why you use bear bells? Many thanks Embarassed

Hi Jan, Fred had a bear bell but lost it as they are fixed by velcro and git spaniel found that easy to remove Evil or Very Mad . A parrot bell wouldn't be loud enough I don't think.

Guy - if you could pick one up I would be very grateful, if not no worries but thanks for the offer.

The reason for my git to wear a bell is to give me at least a fighting chance to figure out where he is in deep cover. They aren't used in the shooting fraternity in the UK hence why I am having trouble sourcing one.

I have thought about a tracking collar but frankly they are way too expensive for the range Freddy can cover.

The idea is that the dog wears a bell - the French use bells that look like little cow bells. http://salah.club.fr/bouticnb.html

When out hunting in dense over you can firstly know where the dog is and secondly when it goes on point out of sight, you have an idea where to look for the dog and therefore the quarry you seek.

Thank you again Guy!( sorry for such basic questions) What puzzled me is the thought that the bell would scare the quarry off? Confused

Sue, Paul Yarrow has bells for his dogs - try asking him where he got them from. He got them as it was so hard to find the dogs in thick cover, and at least you could hear where the dogs were even if you couldn't see them.

How many of us have been late in to work with the excuse, sorry the dog b*****d off this morning.

Keep the questions coming Tache - if you don't ask you don't learn, and nobody on here minds answering questions. The more we can exchange views the better

The parrot bell that I have for the Ghilldog is quite large and even I can hear it in cover so it could do for the 'git' spaniel until you get a bear bell, and can you get one for me as well Guy [or should I say for the Ghill] before I get any clever remarks!

Oh there she is...Ellie on Guy's atavar...gorgeous!! Pierre Willems bought a bell for me...Gaston was good about it the first time I put it on him...he is used to the goats all wearing bells I guess...it is funny that the wildfowl are not disturbed by it...in the distance you could think it was a blackbird tooting a warning...well sort of Laughing

What time is it in NZ? Are you up early or late?
