Following on from my Training Diary thread where I was horrified that Chase had leapt on Barbara and Johns dining table I wonder what we all allow.
Now Chase and Brice are allowed on my sofa and armchair as they get off when told, Piper isn't allowed on any furniture as he won't move and becomes aggressive when 'challenged' so rug or dog bed is all he is allowed - that will change if and when he learns off means I do mean it NOW! The daybed in the conservatory however is theirs so all can go on but I can sit on it too.
Brice sleeps on my bed (or he takes himself downstairs to the sofa or daybed), Chase sleeps in a crate at home but when in France he was loose in the hotel room and either slept on the floor or was tidy on the bed(curled in a ball at the foot) .............. he could probably be loose at home now but I can't imagine sharing my bed with him and Brice (well I can and my imagination shows me losing out ) and currently he bangs his crate door to be let in when he wants to retire for the night.
When it comes to food they are fed separately as Brice is a slow eater and would give his share up to anyone. Piper is still food aggressive while Chase will wait sat looking at his bowl till allowed, even if Brice wanders past ....... but he would nick Brice's without a qualm - hence fed seperately.
Brice and Chase interchange frequently regarding who sits on the sofa with me and who is alone on the armchair (currently Brice is squishing my hip) and as long as neither challenge over who has mum rights I don't care. Mind you, any posturing over who 'owns' me sees all dogs losing out.
They are not allowed in my kitchen and sheepish looks ensue if they are caught in there, this is a safety issue really as it is teeny and falling over a dog would not be helpful. They are also not allowed in my guest room although of course that is forbidden fruit - as Freddy used to be a door opener it has a lock but with these three it can be left unsecure as they haven't learned the art - yet!

OK, my situation is slightly different in that my computer is in the study where presently there is no daybed - but there will be as soon as I have finished decorating. Then I suspect Hester and Allez will be in here with me for a few hours a day. But for the moment, that means that when I'm through here, Hester goes through to the lounge and lies on the leather settee and always in the same place. So if I go through there she moves - without any need for a command - she just gets off and goes onto the leather chair. Leather for a reason - easy cleaned!
Allez follows me like a little dog ( Sorry, couldn't resist that ), whither thou goest etc etc - even to the loo! He just lays down at my feet whichever room I'm in. He is thre now. I have to lock him in his cage at bedtime as he is a door opener too and lets himself out of the cage, opens the kitchen door, lets Hester into the lounge and they both have a good old bark at whatever they can see at whatever time in the morning he has awoken - so lock it must! I no longer have to change my bed every day because of the muddy footprints as I have fitted a gate across the hall. The girls are in their kennel outside daytime, and come in for the evening to the conservatory with the door locked so Hester can't eat them. They can go on the conservatory chairs as they are old and tatty ones. Hester has a dog bed in the kitchen at night with a humungous cushion to ease her old bones. The girls go back into their kennels at night and sleep in wooden kennels inside their runs in the garage, with double duvets to sleep on.

Oh dear...they are all allowed on the sofas,,,but as Ru and Cop are still "at daggers drawn" it's only one Brit' at a time. We have a gate at the bottom of the stairs for dogs and grandkids but occasonally it gets left unlocked..Ru and Cop will dash upstairs..but both know the "downstairs" command. Zac knows he can't do the stairs anymore but can still get on the sofa (sometimes with a little help) Zac sleeps on his big bed at night and the Brits are in their big crates with snuggle rugs..

Mine are allowed on chairs - on the strict understanding that if a human wants to sit down they have to get down. Rosie in particular has perfected the "why do you want MY chair when there are other empty chairs" look but they all know they will be evicted if they don't get up when told to.
They all seem to have their favourite chairs - Rosie in the "spare" armchair, or in the old chair which has a better view of the back garden. Sherry will either be next to me on the sofa or on the floor behind the sofa. Ozzy too likes the sofa or will lie behind Bill's chair, or ON my feet. They never seem to curl up together - my Weimaraners used to but not the Brits.
Toby and Bliss used to sleep in our bedroom, but since they've gone the dogs tend not to go upstairs - occasionally for a quick nose round, but they stay downstairs most of the time.
The 3 of them sleep in the kitchen. Rosie and Sherry have their beds, but Ozzy still sleeps in his cage - mainly to stop him beating up Sherry in the middle of the night horrible dog!
They have their own corners of the kitchen for eating - don't normally have any trouble with theiving, but we do stand guard just in case. Rosie gets hers first as she's the slowest eater, then Sherry, then him - it's in age order but the main reason is to make sure they finish about the same time.
Naturally they have to check each others bowls at the end - as if any of them would leave anything!
Pippa's Pack
What do we allow? Most things really - might be easier to say what is not allowed. They are not allowed to take food out of one another's bowls. Chloe and Pippa have their food in the utility room and Bella and Soufee have theirs in the kitchen. Only trouble is, Soufee is far slower than the rest. When Bella has finished hers she sits and watches Soufee. If the others come through she gives them a look which says 'If there is any left it is mine!'
They all sleep upstairs at night. All the bedroom doors are open (unless we have a visitor) and they can sleep where they like. In the main bedroom there are also two baskets and a duvet. Soufee mostly likes to lie on the floor - especially in hot weather but goes into the little bedroom when it gets light where she can lie on the window sill and watch for cats. Pippa and Chloe use the baskets or duvets or sometimes sleep on the bed (Chloe gives me a nudge to lift her up). Bella however, insists on sleeping next to me. Not just on the bed but actually touching me. If I move, she moves. What it is to be loved!!
The little bedroom is my computer room. They love this room because they can be with me and also watch everything that is going on outside. When I am here, Bella is always here and usually Chloe. I do have to stop them coming up here when we go out because Soufee takes books off the book shelves and chews them up.
They do get on the settees but often Soufee and Chloe lie on the floor. Soufee is really funny. She must lie so that she is touching something, the wall, the side of the chair etc. She will never lie in the middle of the floor. There is a cage (with an open door) and a basket in the kitchen. Chloe loves the cage.
Bella is a pain in the kitchen, because as soon as I start dishing up, there she is right under my feet. She appears as if by magic. They know that they get fed after we have had our dinner and do not pester but the minute I put down my knife and fork, Bella runs into the utility room where I prepare their food.
I am sure we are far too lenient but do not have any real problems. When we first had Chloe we had a session with a 'dog psychologist'. I would not like to tell you what she thought about Brian and I. She gave us all sorts of advice. Do not allow the dog on the furniture, or the bed. Do not sit and stroke the dog for no reason. Make sure she knows who is 'top dog' (she does - it is Pippa) etc. etc.
None of this was what Brian wanted to hear so he said it was a load of rubbish and a waste of money and just carried on as he had before!

But then, Brian has selective deafness anyway, hasn't he?

What are mine allowed!
Well I have 5 here with me and they are all my babies, 4 Welsh Springers and you know who, they live in the kitchen in plastic beds on vet bed.
I have a tiny house so 5 dogs all over the house would be a nightmere.
If I am not at a show I am in the garden with 5 little helpers.
I just don't know what life would be like with out my dogs they are my best friends, they all give me 100% all of the time.
Most evenings has one on the chair and you know who loves to sit with me to watch the tv. The best thing is when I am on SKYP and I have my friends on the PC, Mabeleen trys to look for the voices that is coming out of the computer, she is so funny.
